Proud new owner. Nsm Grand 2 & AMI Rowe 94

www.oldschool-games.com/forum/cabinets/juke.JPG
Im now the proud owner of some jukboxes.
I pretty much got them for free, but I had to do some work for them on my end.
Got these at the beginning of the year Im perpetually remodeling and needed to get so get some new flooring in a couple rooms before I moved them in.

The Nsm was pretty much up and running. I think it had some lolipops stuck in the cd mech and some cables wernt plugged in. Ive spent some days wiping it down and putting my cds in it and I really love the way it sounds! I think Im going to keep it and touch up the Ami and sell that one.

I plugged a mini stereo adapter into the input and plugged a bluetooth adapter into that and now I can also listen to the radio or stream music from my cellphone or laptop, pretty cool stuff. It doesnt sound as loud as cd's though but still decent.

Some newbie questions/comments:
Nsm:
1. How can I cancel a song I choose on acident? EDIT: IM missing the control box.
2. Sometimes the right side of the juke stops working right, seems like its usually after the amps powered down awhile after playing a song. Any ideas?
3. I need a new lock out bar mech, looks like somebody used to open it with a screwdriver.

Ami needs lots of work. First order of business is it seems to be missing the power supply. Just ordered one on ebay hopfully that'll get it running somewhat. Ive been searching for and found 45's for it over the last year and got what I think is a good selection. Some of them are pretty new. Many are really dirty and need to be cleaned and i need to print up card titles for the missing ones. Also needs locks/keys. Touch up paint and taking apart and cleaning the nooks and crannies. The top is busted from it getting broken into should be able ot touch it up with some glue and paint. Needs a disco ball or cd in the middle top display and a motor.

R 92/93 Questions:
1. Can I buy any Pioneer PD-M450 multidisc player for the cd player or does it need to be one specifically modded for the Ami? tnt a nice guy here on the forums but he wants $300 for one Id rather get one of those adpaters or mp3 players I see on the net like the ones on cdapdter.com. EDIT LOOKS LIKE YOU CAN AND IM WORKING ON IT!
2. Which model is this the 92 or 93? NM I see on the back it says its a r-94
3. Can this also play records with the small hole? I see many new picture 45's but they only have the small spindle hole in them. EDIT DOESNT PLAY SMALL HOLES I DONT THINK.

I have a ton more questions but cant think of them at the second. Well jukeboxes are cool, Im happy i got these ones!

dude both of those are muthaf*&%$ DOPE!!! neat boxes man. Best of luck getting em fixed up!

thanks, I think the R94s kinda ugly but its got character. Its cool how it play both cds and records.

Well I got the power supply today and spent the day getting the machine to work.
Right now the cam motor doesnt seem to work. Neither the record grabber or the stylus are working right. Ive fixed about twenty things on it so far. I have no idea how it got in this condition.

Just to be clear I can turn the cam by hand and itll move and the record will play but it wont on its own. I dont feel the motor putting out any effort.

Buddy suggested I check voltage at the motor with a multimeter. Ill give that a go. Maybe get new drive belt for the 45 and readjust the whole player, cams, sprages ect.

I dont think this jukebox will play small hole records

Hmm looks like you can gets a tool called a dinker to make the hole bigger. I also said somebody here say they use a hole saw, I dunno.

I found a standard pioneer 6 disk player. I gonna try to mod it to work with the 94 model player:

You don't actually need the little board inside the CD Player. All
you need to do is run 3 wires from the plu in the CCC board. The
green wire goes directly to the output of the infrared sensor "eye" on
the front panel of the cd player (plese note that this eye should be
removed in order to avoid any false triggering). The Blue wire
should be connected to the Mute line of the CD player and the black
wire should go to the logic ground of the CD player. Red wire is not
needed. We ran about 10 combo's this way using sony players and never
had any technical problems. About the only problems that we have had
with them is their high sensitivity to vibration. If you have the
juke on a wooden floor and simply walk past the juke a bit heavily -
the cd,s will skip like crazy. It REALLY gives people the shits
Note that the Pioneer and Sony players have different Mute polarities
too. One type goes HI to mute and the other type goes LO to mute. I
presume this is how the CCC tells which type of player is installed
and sends the appropriate remote control signals. Later model
Pioneer Cd players (with the Plastic mech) will not work with this
system due to an incompatibility with the remote signals. All the
Sony 10 stack players will work that I have tried, however they are
very expensive to buy and often need modifications to the mech shelf
and the cabinet front to make them physically fit into the jukebox.
The pioneer cd players are very reliable however. If you are moving
the juke - then the disc casette should be removed from the player or
it will jam.
Please note too - that the Logic board in the R_88 will not work with
this system - even though it looks identical to the R-89-94 type CCC
boards. The EPROM is wired to a different physical address on the CCC
, and is of course a totally different program. Not that it matters
as I dont think you could fit a multi CD player into an R-88 anyway -
besides - R-88 doesnt have the dual displays that are needed for CD
combo operation.

Wonder if itll work? Ill get back with you all.

Well after playing with it for awhile I could feel the cam motor putting out some heat.
I took off its cover and took the spindle out and put it back in.
ITS WORKS NOW !
You can push the spindle in though and itll jam up again. Oh well.
I made a video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFvMz8IRYW8

Still more problems
The needle starts part way through the song.
When it picks up the record after play the needles still in the way a little and it bupms it out of the way.
Only seems to play about 2 minutes. Maybe this is somthing in the settings.
Anybody think a new belt well help any with the speed or do I need to adjust it, it looks ok.
I tried to tighten up the main mechanish motor belt but it still scratches up the 45's, you think this might be because its not full?

Well I found a m3 pioneer 6 disc cd changer and soldered some wires like the instructions above said but no dice so far, I actaully put the sensor one on a point named sensor instead of on the actuall piece like it said, ill keep fidlling.
Got the arm adjusted so its plays at the beginning of the song and it hasnt cut off early in awhile. Oiled some points on the table.
I made a cable for the Aux input the out side ones are the inputs and the middles the ground right? Any way to check if I got it right? I push play on the cd player and I hear nothing.
I noticed the paper on the outside of speakers rotted away. I saw black paper in the bottom of the juke and knew somthing was up. When I had the front off to put in the cd player I thought Id have a look see. When the volumes low they sound blown but when you turn it up its not so bad. Most any 8 ohm 10" speaker should be fine right? Seems like Its about one of the least popular sizes of speaker. Maybe I could get them reconed but that looks like it'll be $80+, Id rather just try to find new speakers.

I bought some current 45's (I'll do up my playlist soon, I think its kick ass) a new needle, a disc washer, some nitty gritty cleaner fluid, a new drive table drive belt, some keys and paper sleeves.

Jukeboxes are fun! Ilike the Nsm alot more more overall but the Rowes more fun to play around with and records are pretty cool, havent played around them much since I was 6.

I put the wire on the sensor and it works now but it only picks up some of the tracks, maybe thats the false triggering the above poster was talking about.. dunno, maybe its because its missing the 5v line...... hmm
Spent awhile tring to adjust the tone arm and cam ect havent got to much further though. I have a maintance section froma r-93 and its possible a couple small parts might be slightly different. To me If theres anything about this palyer and getting right its this.
Also the right side seems louder to me, adusting the balance doesnt seem to do much Maybe the mains on the verge of blowing out also.

EDIT:
Tried changing to a different mute, totally lost control of the cd player, then I removed the sensor and jacked up the cd player, cleaned up my mistake and voila...same thing as the beginning. Still doesnt work. Ill try adding the 5v line and see if that does anything.

Nope I figured out exactly what was going on, itll take the signal for 1 and then anything 10+. No 2-9 though.
I think when edward above said"Later model
Pioneer Cd players (with the Plastic mech) will not work with this system due to an incompatibility with the remote signals.'
this maybe one of those players. Its a pd-m423, made in 1996. I took it out and im about to toss it in the trash.

Just a comprehensive update on the Rowe R-94:

AMI Rowe R-93 Combo
Problems or work still needing to be done:
Stylus/Tone arm is bumped by transfer Arm when putting records back. Doesn't make any sounds, just looks awkward.
Magazine belt rubs some records.
Missing one 36' fluorescent light bulb.
Some/all speakers need to be reconed. Sounds good mid/high range you can tell in low to extreme high volume though.
Missing cd or disco ball display and motor.
Missing or didn't come with cd player. I found a similar model and soldered wires inside. Won't play tracks 2-9. I believe this is because jukebox ccc sends unrecognized remote code to newer player. Also doesn't have a volume attenuator so the cd player is much louder than 45 records.
Purchased Cash box lever arm to long.
No bill acceptor/never had. Suggest if it's going to be on route.

Aesthetics/Looks;
Polish clean under keypad display and disco ball area.
Light coat of spray paint around black key area.
Scrub or paint bottom speaker area.
Cracks & breaks or both sides on top in back. Needs to be epoxied sanded and touched up you may be able to still see it if really looking for it.

Work done so far:
New turntable belt.
New needle purchased.
Replaced missing power supply.
Lighting system put back in place and adjusted as necessary.
Numerous errors fixed on CCC and Keypad display.
Dozens of adjustments and maintenance items done to record player main unit.
Fixed cam motor.
Keyed cashbox & front of unit.
5 + hours cleaning flood damage and reconditioning. No structural or integral damage found except outside paper cones on 10" woofers.

I got 3 of the 4 speakers reconed locally. It cost $140.

Polished under the keypad and the price display, took out the speaker grill while I had the speakers reconed and scubbed it pretty good, I may still spray paint it, Ill have to see.

It wasnt the magazine the was rubbing the 45s when the magazine was turning it was the support bracket. I need to work on my powers of observation. I pushed it up a little and bent it back gently.

That white thin white plastic arrow on the collar was what causing the needle to not move enough when the arm is leaving. The bracket on the bottom of the tone arm was catching under it and bouncing around. I tried to bend it in but after a few minutes it went back. I just removed it and it runs alot smoother now. I tried adjusting the back screw of the tone arm and sdjuting everything else about 100 times and i almost lost my mind. Thank God that thin wire that goes in the tone arm stayed in tact after all my tinkering.

Found a another lever for the cash box it doesnt fit the cam perfect but it keeps the door locked.

Hey anybody on here know anything about repairing jukeboxes?
Two things are really bugging me:

So I bought another cd player (specifically for this jukebox)and plugged it in. its doing the same thing as the cd player I found in my moms garage and hacked up.... It wont play tracks 2-9. Also the attenuator doesnt seem to help much, it still gets way louder than the phonograph.

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=104611.0 ....this kinda descibes my problem.

Also the tone arm drops at random places on the record. I made sure the wires going out of it are clear of anything that would catch them. Thought it helped but it didnt.

Hi Xavier,

With regards to the tone arm You need to check that the location peg on the tone arm cam is not broken. Also check that the two pegs that are on the back of the tone arm are intact and are fitted over the tone arm cam. the only other thing that could be wrong is that the white plastic spring fitted to the tone arm can is not bent or damaged.

Hey thanks for the help.
the location pegs not broken and the two pegs are still there and fitted over the cam.
Whats this white plastic spring? I removed a white piece of plastic on the cam because the arm was getting stuck in it and getting hit by the record grabber.

Hey I sent you an email I was wondering if you got it?
My cd player only plays track 1&10+.
I want to burn a new eprom to see if that'll fix it and was wondering if you had an image for it.

I saw you made this post over at controlls forum:
Can you confirm that the R-93 Combo jukebox that you have plays 45's and has a one (or two) CD players fitted.

If the above is correct then it could be that you have a problem with the CD interface board.

My jukebox has one cd player in it.
