prototype bally midway game? norcal, not mine

Just got back home. He told me the offer was $1k from new york. I was thinking curt, but he said not him..

Very nice guy. he worked for bally from 82-89. then apple, then EA then akklaim. He had lots of cool stories. So hopefully he will want to speak at a panel at CAX. He sounded like he was interested in doing that.

Game looks complete as he decribed. Pretty good shape. Looks like stickers over the sides of a spyhunter cab. It has a custom marquee and what looks like a hand painted glass behind the seat(very cool looking). I think its dated 1984 or 85..

They guy was describing the game play based on the back wall art. Looks like your flying in a delorean looking car. he says there are a few game modes. one is a race track situation and the other is more of a free form explore the enviroment thing..

The controls are a discs of tron stick with a lunar lander like thrust bar. The thumb buttton I think says "view". He was not sure what it did but it would make sense if it was a zoomed out look..

The only board that looks standard is the audio amp... Everything else looks custom. The power supply looks like xenophobe not mcr.. He pulled it as he suspects thats bad. So it needs to be rebuilt and put back in..

I did not have my camera, so I did not not take pics. The place was a pain to get to deep in the mountains..

Hopefully it will be an easy fix and can make it to CAX next year.. If I can get some pics, I will update. From the description/art and controls, there is no way its metrocross..

Google it - it's a continuation of Metro Cross. Supposedly Aero Cross is going to be released on Namco's series of classics for Xbox 360, etc.

I saw that. That what made me believe it was Metro Cross, or one of Bally/Midways unauthorized Namco "sequels".

So I take it your buying me a plane ticket to CAX next year so I can see this game in person. ;)

I talked to the guy at some length on the phone after you bought it as well and yeah, super nice guy with good stories. It would be neat to have him at CAX next year. It was weird because after you posted the 1K offer he called me and said the highest offer so far was $500. Which is why I made the joke about it being 2k now. Anyway, I think that's a heck of a deal and am glad to see it in good hands.

I think he said there is (or was) one more like it that had the seat cut off but I'm not clear what became of it.

When I posted about this in the other thread I was wondering if it would bring in these kinds of offers. Wonder what it could have gone for given more time to advertise and sell it properly.

I am not sure why, but I think he was thinking the NY offer was not going to pan out. Maybe he knew the logistics of getting it out would make it hard to ship. So maybe thats why he did not consider it... I asked him what he wanted for it and he said $500, but he wanted to call back people. I sent him an email that said ken would probably go more once had a look at it.. He called me back and said it was fine to come out and see it/pick it up. He was given way more than $500 for it. So it did not come dirt cheap. I think what sold it to him was it was going to end up at CAX and get played. He was happy with that and happy he would be able to play it in the future.

As for someone buying it to have it shipped, boy that would have been a nightmare.. The guy did not have the means to move it. how a moving truck got in there to drop it off back in the 80's is beyond me. the road to his house was at best a trail..

As for the other cabinet, I think its toast. He said they cut it down to fit into the other programmers house back in IL. They tossed the seat. Since then the guy moved out to CA and I hear it did not make the trip out (someone already bought his games). So its a matter of going back to the guy and ask what happend to it. I would guess landfill, but maybe the guy kept the boards..

as for what its worth, I told him I sold my dedicated mystic marathon for $5k. I told him no one could argue with whatever price he put on his game.. I am pretty sure he knew he could get more for it. I think he was happy at what they worked out.
