Just got a new screened crazy climber cp panel and new joysticks. The joysticks may be a little short (I might end up altering the way they mount to the wood to improve this), but it got me thinking. I can see that over time, people's fingernails could easily scratch up the cp around the base of the joysticks. And of course the original cp's tend to be worn. Maybe I should get some of that thin plastic coating that always comes on the screens of stuff like ipods or whatever. What is that stuff called? Where would I get a sheet that large? Or is there something else that would be a better solution?

I suppose the same would apply to my repro/rescreened Gorf panel. I wouldn't want anything with adhesive, as it could screw up the artwork. One thing that I think would work well would be a large piece of static cling vinyl, as would be used on a laptop or I-pod screen. I think the large pieces are available somewhere, but I don't know where.

You haven't ever seen the stealth pads in person then. They leave ZERO residue but cling very well. And they're cheap. I use them on my pins to save the side art from friction wear.

Can you get them large enough for a control panel? I was sorta talking about the mylar with adhesive backing, like used for pop bumpers or playfields.

I would say it's a safe bet he could contact "forget his name right now" from pinball pal and order a large enough sheet to do a CP. But the area he's looking at protecting is around the joystick base not the whole panel.

Come to think about it, a few years ago I had a local print me artwork and he had taken it to a local shop (local meaning portland or Milwaukie) and had it coated with something else or another. TheShanman check with a local print shop to see if they could "lack of better term" clear coat the CPO for ya. Now I wish I'd have paid attention to who the guys said he used. gah.......

I suppose just around the joysticks would be adequate, although I think it would look nicer, and would be less prone to being peeled up, if it covered the whole cp. I'll try contacting pinball pal. That sounds like the easy winner if it can be done in one large piece. Thanks guys for the feedback.

I also think I will alter the joystick mounts such that the joysticks aren't so short. I got the new joysticks wired in and played a game a few minutes ago, and not only did they seem shorter than they should be, but I was continually thinking about not letting my fingernails accidentally contact the cp. I'm curious now to find out how tall the originals are.
