Recently i bought an NBA Jam dedicated cab. The control panel is the cleanest i've seen for a while and i want to keep it that way.

No cracking or splitting....yet. Is there something clear i can put over the top to help keep it in this condition without ruining the look or originality? Will contact do the trick?

I wouldn't put anything that will stick to the cpo. If you want to keep it nice best option would be to put a piece of plexi on top to protect the cpo. Although if it's in a home environment and you don't have kids or animals that will potentially cause damage then I doubt normal home wear will do much damage. .

Yes plexi is the answer:

If you need to know how to cut it:

how thick is your plexi?

I can't remember off the top of my head, I will measure it tonight. I think it is 1/16". I just got some 3/16" fluorescent red Plexiglas for a new cab I am building.

You can use whatever you want, I think thinner is better for the most part, although I think the Lexan (original) to my Neo Geo is too thin, it can shatter too easily. I am not going to change it though since it is original and in good shape (and the artwork is painted on it).
