I have been trying to fill in my Atari Vector collection, but they are oh so difficult to find in Florida, so much that I've had to bring/ship most of them from out of state. One of the machines I've wanted for a long time is a Space Duel, and while I see them very reasonably priced in other areas, I haven't seen one pop up in a year or more here.. so every one I would see pop up on KLOV had me drooling, hoping to finally get one in my permanent collection, so I always see what the sellers are offering for the machine, condition, and if it would be worthwhile to ship..
So recently Roburt obtained one at a very reasonable price and listed it here for sale for quite a while with no bites, and it was getting to the point that the machine would be worth more parted than what he could get out of it complete, so I made him an offer that would work out for me with shipping the game so I could add it to my collection... and he happily agreed to pass the deal he got onto me so the machine could stay complete and be restored and put into a collection. There's no doubt he could have parted the machine to make more money, but he told me he'd have no part of that and was happy it was staying complete and going to a KLOVer's collection. The price he offered helped soften the blow of shipping the game, and overall this was a win/win situation!!
So I wanted to make sure that Roburt got the proper recognition for doing the right thing to preserve our hobby and our classic games and not just look to trash a machine to make a few extra bucks. I spend some time cleaning up the machine and I'm still grinning from ear to ear that I got this thing! I've already ordered some t-moulding and plan on pulling the coin door off this weekend to sand/paint it to help bring it back to all it's glory. I'm like a kid at christmas with this machine here
In a time where some will quickly part a machine to maximize profit and destroy a perfectly good cabinet, it's good to hear the stories (or be part of one) where it's about preserving our games and our hobby!
Here's some pics of the game:
