I am building a JAMMA SNES, and I was wondering the following:

The SNES runs on 10V if you plug into the back, which is probably converted to 5v inside the system.

If I connected the negative terminal on the SNES to -5v on the JAMMA harness and the positive terminal to the +5v on the JAMMA harness, would that count as load on the +5v and not damage the switcher?

The console is designed to run on 5v. Most console power supplies output what's called an unregulated voltage, which might be 10v for example. A voltage regulator in the console regulates this voltage to 5v, I would suggest that this is done to avoid a voltage drop in the wiring.

I don't know where they are located on the SNES, but here's a picture of a typical one:

So I did this today, I have the SNES wired up to a JAMMA fingerboard, and that is plugged into my Neo cabinet via a JAMMA adapter. Looks like I will need to add a video amp circuit. The +5v is connected to where the voltage regulator was.
