I bought a kit from Mark Spaeth a few weeks ago and asked some questions about the install.. he never bothered to reply. Surprise..

I removed all of the roms except 5E and 5F (I think), put the Z80 back onto the board.

Replaced the 5F(?) with the part Eprom and socket provided. The wire barely reaches when you plug it into the test connector.

I dont have any pics and my machine is not easy to get to and open up.

I found a picture on KLOV of the kit installed by someone restoring a cabinet with the kit. Cant remember who though. I found it by searching 6 pac I think.

Just picked up one of these and am having a few issues installing it on my Pac-man board. I removed the ROMS from 6 E, F, H & J as well as 5 E & F and then installed the card as pictured above. That resulted in a garbled screen and the coin counter racking up credits (dip switch on main pcb is set to "free play"). Tried to also remove 6B, which resulted in a garbled screen but no coin counter issues.

Please advise on proper installation of the 6-pac upgrade using an original Pac-Man board.

Thanks.

Re-installed the kit with all original roms in place (save the 5E) and got the menu to show up but got a "ROM 0" message anytime I tried to select a game from the main menu. Also, pushing P1 & P2 did not get me back to the main menu. Free play is set on the dip switches. Could this be the issue?

I see it is using the "test" edge connector. You need to clean that connector before plugging it in. Remember, these edge connectors have never been used so they usually have some oxidation on them. Use a fiberglass scratch brush or a pencil eraser to clean it. Do NOT use sandpaper. You can leave the original roms in row 6 but it wont hurt to remove them. If one of them is bad there is a slight chance it can cause issues.

Its a possibility. Check the traces coming from the 40 pin socket that lead over to the test connector. Look for scratched or broke traces.

I am swapping out my Doyle kit for a Spaeth 6-pac I had from years ago. Simpler for the person taking the pac cab. Bumped this up because of the pic.

The one I have is not like the one pictured above, in that the edge connector piece has just what looks like a single large eprom and nothing else. There are also 3 grey wires that come off the edge connector board.
When I boot the game up, it does not go to the menu. Instead it boots directly to Ms. Pac fast. Holding down the p1/p2 buttons at the same time does not go into the menu either. Grounding one of the 3 grey wires resets the machine.

Any ideas what could be wrong? I assume since it is booting into a game, that it must be functional for the most part. The dips work, can get it into freeplay.. but no menu access.

any ideas?
