Hi guys,

I've got a project Egret 29, and I'm curious what it's worth in its current condition. I saw a poorly painted (black) Egret with a secondhand panel and no marquee sell for over $1,600 on eBay recently. It's got me thinking about selling mine.

This is my third Egret 29, but I sold the other two a long time ago. The market has clearly changed since then.

The good:
- Original six button panel
- Original marquee
- Nice looking picture
- Rare/desirable cab

The bad:
- This cab was apparently "dropped" off the back of a truck when the last owner purchased it (15 or so years ago). The metal support arms are bent, and the speaker shroud doesn't fit properly as a result.
- The screen rolls until it's warm
- Will need new locks
- Dent on the right hand side of the cab from the "drop"
- Needs cleaning, but I can take care of that

I could certainly fix her up, but given how many pinball projects I have going on, I'm not sure when I'll have the time. I'm wondering whether I should sell as-is, or go through a full refurb. It's really a matter of what you guys think it might be worth.

Thanks for any and all help!

I bought mine last fall for $550, similar cosmetic condition but with a dead monitor and without out all the bent metal.

There were two other's that sold around the time I bought mine, both were fully restored but were missing the marquee. one was listed for around $800 and disappeared immediately, the other was listed for $1200 and sat on CL in So-Cal for a while before disappearing, so I'd suspect he took a lower offer.

The Flyback for the monitors on these is no longer in production so any flyback issues is nearly a death sentence. Also due to the monitor rotation mechanism. on mine I managed to find someone with a good flyback on an otherwise bad chassis to swap onto mine.

I don't recall seeing that black one you spoke of on eBay, The $1600 price seems high given what I've seen other E29s sell for over the last year or so, then again it is eBay (any chance you have a link?)

With that said, I'd be interested in buying yours as-is. I'd love to have another one.

I traded my Egret to you less than 2 years ago.... Sold it already? :(
We traded as I recall, my Astro for your Egret. I then went on to trade that Egret for a pinball machine. From there, I picked up another one. This is now my third Egret 29.

Edit: It wasn't a pinball machine but actually a rare console gaming item. My mistake.

That's disappointing. I was under the impression you really wanted the game for your collection.

I buy, sell, and trade games all the time. I didn't buy the game and flip it for a profit, and I didn't part with it immediately.

I also traded in your favor. That Astro was absolutely mint, and I even did the delivery/pick-up.

I don't know why you're giving me a moral browbeating here. I'm always passing along great deals on NEACF, I just have a fluid collection is all.

If my selling a game a year after buying it from you is "disappointing," I don't know what to tell you. I also did a ton of work on that Egret before selling it. I did an entire tear-down and painted the entire cab, shroud, etc. I put a lot of effort into making the thing look and play great, and then I traded it off for the next part of my collection (which has also since been sold).

If you sold/traded the Astro that I delivered to your home, it's ok. Because it's a video game, and it was yours. Not a huge deal.

No problem. I'm fine with the deal. It's just that I didn't expect you to get rid of it so quick. Many people tried to buy that Egret from me over the years.... You sounded like you really wanted it, and offered a fair trade, so I agreed. Didn't realize you were such a "fluid" collector, now I do. All good.

Just to follow up on this thread. BeaglePuss contacted me and offered to sell me the cab for $600, I agreed and arranged to drive down and pick it up a few days later.

The cab was as he described but the monitor wouldn't power on (no neck glow). I still wanted the cab anyway so he knocked the price down to $400 and threw in a Pandora's box for good measure.

Good Dude, I'm very happy with the price and how he handled the situation. I'd definitely buy from him again. :D

I'm glad everything worked out in the end. I was absolutely gutted when you showed up and the cab wouldn't turn on. I appreciate your flexibility and understanding.

Enjoy the cab my man! You'll be able to give it the proper treatment for sure. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I spent some time over the weekend with a prybar and managed to get the metal frame of the top section completely straitened out, also found some proper sized and specced speakers to replace the original ones in the header since they were tacoed. and I straightened out a few dents in the body.

I still need to straighten the two chrome arms that hold up the header. they're a lot stronger than they look so I need to figure out the best way to tackle them.

I haven't taken a look at the monitor yet but I sourced another working MS8-29 chassis so I picked that up... worst case I'll have 2 spares. :D

it took me a while to get the monitor sorted but I finally finished the restore on this cab :D

you may notice the control panel is different, that's simply because I swapped out the 6-button panel with my other Egret 29.
