Probably gone either by the time I write this or by the time you read it, but an interesting piece and an awesome deal if it's an original red (even if it isn't - board alone is worth $150).

Looks like the "Nintendo of America" copyright on the CPO. Shot of the bezel not quite good enough to tell for sure.

Some KLOVer out there needs to go get this if it hasn't been gotten yet. This is a great restoration thread waiting to happen.

In fact, I'll just leave the ad here for posterity.

Donkey Kong Arcade Video Game -Red Cabinet - $150 (Cobb County)
Date: 2012-06-01, 1:22PM EDT

For sale is the rarer red cabinet version of classic Donkey Kong Arcade Game. The game plays well but will need some restoration to bring it back to its glory days. It has a working game board and the monitor works but needs a cap kit. Previous owner adjusted the picture narrow to minimize the distortion in the picture, but the colors are still bright. The game is missing its marquee. Please refer to pictures for more details. This game restored would be the highlight of an arcade collection or a nice addition to a pinball machine room. The game will be sold to the first person with $150, not the first person to respond to the ad. Thanks for looking.

Any word?

I emailed about this yesterday and asked for a serial number and have heard nothing back from the seller.

Would love to go grab it - just a couple of hours down the road...

It's hard to tell but it looks like it might be painted. Again, it's hard to tell from the picture. It's been a while but I see that it does not have the early coin door. Not sure when they switched to that.

Still it could be the real thing. You never know.

People weren't painting their DK cabs red until this past decade, and the decay of the Insert Coin sticker definitely predates the 2000s...

And there were definitely factory red DKs with double coin doors.

I'm gonna guess original! Not a Radarscope conversion, or any of the very first batch (there's a 7-slot speaker grill on this one), but probably a factory red.

But obviously somebody worked on this machine at some point (black t-molding, painted faceplates, woof!), so who knows. Still a good deal regardless.

To be honest I don't remember the specifics but there have been many threads on this over the years. It's in the archives here.

First, the model number should either be either TKG2 or TKG3. (TKG4 is an autofail!)

All TKG2s were red (and have a 5-digit serial number starting with a 1).

TKG3s are a mixture of blue and red. The serials are also 5 digits, but they start with a 0. What you're looking for with a TKG3 is a serial lower than 03500. There are no known reds past that point.

The truth is, this cab is extremely worth it whether or not it's a red. It could have been painted purple by six year olds and it would be worth it.

And the guy might not be responding to you because he doesn't want to deal with somebody who is tire-kicking about serial numbers! Not that you did anything wrong, but from the tone of the ad it looks like he just wants to get rid of it without having to deal with anything.

i said i would take it without serial numbers even being brought up... i need good nity cabs

he never responded though

I'd actually like a Donkey Kong so I'd snag this if I could. Needs a marquee and the sideart but it looks very passable.(that control panel might need work too)

I have a red dk and I paid 475 for it in worse shape than that one...awesome deal...mine didn't even work. From what I remember dedicated red dks..not rs conversions..started at 01000.
