Project: Building a JAMMA test station on the cheap...
I've finally hit a wall when it comes to being able to add any more dedicated games to my collection. Until I decide to give up the garage or 2 out of 3 bedrooms in my house, I came up with a compromise: Build a space saving test rig with the spare parts I have been saving over the years. I just need some help figuring out what I'll need.
I am building it around a 'Shadow Force' Technos PCB I found in an unlikely place...while putting an order together with Bob Roberts! I think it is the neatest thing I've ever purchased from him. It is also a very different game, a side scrolling beat-em up that uses six buttons per player made by the development house that created Double Dragon. I love the characters and art style; it seems to be the last dedicated game Technos made before switching over to the Neo Geo platform if KLOV's database is to be believed.
So far I have:
1. Two Working, serviced G07s; one horizontal, one vertical.
2. An extra joystick, 12 new buttons, and 1up and 2up start buttons.
3. A scrap piece of plexi, that I'll adapt to make a CP around; pre drilled joystick and button holes.
4. A harness that I'll piece together from scraps. Like I said, spare parts.
5. A switcher.
6. A speaker.
I'll need:
1. A power section with an ISO to power the monitor. The last time I did anything like this, I used a Williams ISO/power block that fit right into my ex-Williams cab and I ran the switcher from the available power plug in the bottom of the cab. Once I find one locally, I'll need help hooking it up. Bob has one, but this project is on the super cheap, so I can't afford it.
2. At least one more joystick.
In the future, maybe I'll find a gutted mini that needs a 19 inch monitor and move everything into it. Thoughts? Opinions?
