I have a bunch of megatouch maxx bar top units laying around. These have been raided for parts mostly but all of them have their tatung monitors still. I can't bring myself to toss these away, they're just cool little units. So i've been trying to come up with come clever ideas to breathe new life into them.

-JAMMA test rig (swapped monitor for 15k rgb)
-Touch screen jukebox running on windows xp
-A game console that uses VGA like dreamcast?
-A 13" crt TV swap to use for other console?

Heres a pic of the test rig i made. Its a work in progress, I'm going to add a panel in front to adjust power supply voltage and make controller ports and a modular jamma harness rather than a loom just sticking out, but its a start:

What other productive uses can there be? Key word productive, no dropping off a parking garage or buring lol.

What did you do with the original VGA monitor in that test rig? Does it work?

I enjoy playing my Maxx 2K quite a bit. But you must have quite a few of them laying around to be doing that with them.

I picked up a couple of touch LCDs for a project like this. I came to the conclusion that the best software config was SimpletouchFE, DWJukebox and MAME for shooter games, roxio for all the angry birds variants, bejeweled games and a couple of IGT slot games to round it out.

It still requires some control buttons: credit, button2 for reload/shield/pump, escape to get back to the frontend and a power button to shut it all down gracefully.

My software/hardware combo is done, but the cabinet needs to be built. If I had one of those boxes, I'd be done.

Nice LCD mod! Definitely would like to see a pic inside there. I've got some force LCDs laying around that I was going to try to work in there to get some higher res. The tatungs only run 640x480. I got some elo touchscreens that I picked up for like $50 that would also fit in there with some squeezing.

Sounds like a cool project. Yea a place to put the buttons where you can actually use it for a game is tricky. The easiest thing might be to make a plate where the bill validator went and put them on there.

Not a megatouch but its a TouchMaster.. almost the same thing. I have now put a 23 touchscreen pc into it and will run quiz games, megatouch like games, and touchmaster games. I pick up the fabricated lid from the metal shop tomorrow, then skin it to match the rest of the graphics. Then install the new stereo system so it also becomes my mp3 jukebox. I couldn't think of anything else that ugly cabinet looks like.. except R2D2.

I had an old mainframe terminal, roughly the same size. My plan was always to turn it into a small aquarium.

"Wow, that's the most realistic screen saver I've ever seen!"

I'm tossing around a few idea's in my head on what to do with a buddy's Slingo GT2004. I like the idea of a jukebox type setup.

I'm not sure how those older touch screens will do interfacing with windows. But there's only one way to find out.

I've played around and the 3M microtouch drivers will still work on xp at most i think for the models on the maxx units but you're locked in at 640x480 on the monitor and that is the challenging part since most modern stuff is way past that. If it could do 800x600 it would be way more useful. Its hard enough to force XP to even work in 640 by default.

Thanks for the info. Seems my options would be very limited then with that small of a res. I'd like to re-use the pc in it if I could also, but my guess is that's also a pipe dream.
