Heya Klov,

Does anyone have a resource for the production numbers for the Playchoice 10? I can find a fair amount of information on the cab games etc. but (I just acquired 4 of these) was curious about serial numbers, changes in production, etc. Thanks!

Interesting... Lots of these were converted from Punchouts and Donkey Kong cabs. So im not sure how many are production numbers where made.

Agreed. For the four I have acquired, they are stamped with a PC code (I think). It doesn't look as if they were previously anything else, but I would imagine Nintendo used the extra punch out cabs (hell, maybe that's why they made the play choice....). Anyhow in googling etc. it looks like there are a few different versions of the cab (single monitor, two versions of a duel and the tabletop). I can't imagine they made thousands of these but actual numbers don't seem to be forthcoming. I will say that it looks like so far the highest SN on the cabs are in the 1400-1500 range.

I was wondering the same thing...I have a "dedicated" single monitor one at home that was on a Naval base for years before I picked it up. I'll have to check the SN and see what it is

Funny, mine came from a military base up here in Alaska (Army, or Air Force, i think). Yes please do: If we can see the highest SN that shows up that may give some clue. I am getting an additional 2 machines at some point in the near future, Ill look there as well. Currently 1562 is the highest, while two are in the triple digits (don't have the SN in front of me).

So far: 2235 is the highest of the group.

On a side note, what purpose does the battery on the pcb serve? Im guessing bookkeeping? Mine is looking as if it's leaking, and Im thinking removal is a good idea. Any replacement options? Should I replace it?

While I'm on the subject, Im having some intermittent issues with the controls. Sometimes the start button doesn't work for some games. I've approached the issue as either a cart problem (cleaned and reseated them) or as possibly the RF/filter board? Would a failing filter board cause intermittent issues (Im leaning towards yes). Is it worth removing the redundant board anyhow?

If your thinking pc-10 cabs had low number builds i think your a bit off.
first each cabinet type had its own serial number system.
so you have serial numbers to add up for each
as in:
dedicated cab
dual cab
conversion cab
and counter top.
so your 2235 would be just one of at least 4 categories to add up to a complete total

playchoice carts on the other hand go in a sequential order. they had just one numbering system for the entire run of all carts made. starting with we assume 001.....I know for sure as low as serial 172 and as high as 257526. so that means a minimum of 260,000 playchoice carts were made.
I have no exact numbers on full cabs as I've never tracked any...... but id assume somewhere in the 20,000 total minimum adding all cab types

Get those batteries off the PCB immediately. The acid can irreversibly destroy your PCB. It's a very common problem.

Thanks Jam, will do and assumed as such.

No, I had no assumption this was more a curiosity for me. The PC10 isn't something I've seen a ton of up here, and google fu had no return on production numbers. I would think your estimate is probably right, somewhere in the 20k range, but who knows.
