Product Review - American DJ PC-100A 8 Channel Power Strip with Lighted Toggles

Seriously, what was I waiting for? This is the greatest device I have found so far in the ongoing war to easily power on and off a wall of arcade games that have switches mounted in the back-bottom-center of the machines. The best part is the fact that you can turn on the games you want, or turn them all on in order. It has 8 frickin' switches! The second best part is that the toggle switches are lighted when they are on, so you know which switch to hit when you want to turn off just the one or 2 games you have running. It's slim and fits on top of most flat top arcade games perfectly. It's rated at 15 amps, but if you turn the games on one at a time, which you will, you'll have no huge amp draw that will cause you to trip the built in breaker. I have so far had 7 machines on at once thru this device and had no issues. This unit seriously rocks. I now need to find a non-invasive way of securing it in place on top of my Popeye machine, as the weight of the cords causes it to slide all the way to the back of the machine. Probably use some of those adhesive-backed robber feet on the bottom of the unit. Overall, I give this unit a rating of 7 raging hugers pointed directly at Sav's chin whilst he is wearing 3 inch heels and standing fully erect.

Been using the same device for 3+ years now. I have two and will be buying 2 or 3 more 4-switch versions shortly. I mounted mine on top of my MAME cabs using an L-bracket and screws. You wouldn't want to do that with a dedicated cab though.

I've also seen someone flush mount 2 panels in a wall... looked kickass.

Yep, I read a FrizzyBear post awhile back and bought an 8 switch version about 2 years ago. It's awesome.

Aren't you the trend-setter. This unit is the best unit I've ever seen.

i wish my unit had 8 switches on it. but yeah, i've been using this for 2 years myself. very nice. don't know yet how it holds up to surges, but being able to select what games i want to turn on instead of having them all on is pretty sweet.

I must have missed in the original post where you mentioned where such a wonder could be purchased, and the price for such...

I use these too. I also have a pair of the 4 switch version. I'm not particularly fond of them though because unlike the 8 switch one, the 4 switch one has the switches on the top instead of the front. So if you stand it up so the switches face forward, the individual power cords will stick up in the air. I wish the switches were on the front and outlets on the back.

One thing to beware of with these: don't get the right angle power cords Bob sells whenever you need to replace a game's power cord. If you do, you'll lose half of your outlets because one cord's plug will block the outlet next to it.

My game room is wired up with these. I have three of the 8-channel version and two of the 4-channel version. FWIW, bank 2 in my game room has all 8 channels in use. Seven of the games are single monitor 19" rasters and one is a double (Punch-Out!!). I've had zero issues running everything full tilt.

My only complaint about these power switches is that the 8-channel switch's own power cord is only about six feet long, barely long enough to reach from the top of a cab to a normal height wall outlet. The 4-channel version's cord is barely three feet, and necessitates an extension cord. Worth it, though. These things rock.

I now need to find a non-invasive way of securing it in place on top of my Popeye machine, as the weight of the cords causes it to slide all the way to the back of the machine. Probably use some of those adhesive-backed robber feet on the bottom of the unit.

Circular adhesive velcro patch kits work great. I put one on each end of the bottom of the power strip. Holds them pretty securely to the top of a game cab even with eight games' power cords attached, and you can always peel off the velcro patch later if needed. That link is just to show you an example. You can get these at Home Depot or Lowe's.
