I have downloaded the MAME plus and MAME32 and some game ROMS and can't get them to work, am I missing something here. Have the game ROMs on zip files on the desktop and the MAME programs w/ icons on desk top but the games dont play, always says file(s) dont exist. All of this will be transfered to the actual computer for my cabinet I'am gonna build, so I need to know how to get this to work. Thanks

Your answer will be on the buildyourownarcadecontrols site or mameworld.net

I would venture a guess it's not configured properly and that your ROMs are in the wrong location, or your missing binaries.

Some games require the matching .chd file (Area 51, Gauntlet Legends, etc). Other games require a separate driver file (Naomi or System 573 for example) or the game won't work. Some games just don't work yet.

And the rom requirements have changed from one MAME version to another so half the roms you download won't work with the MAME version you download. It's frustrating as hell.

The best bet is to either order a complete set of ROMs with MAME on DVD or find someone that has a complete set and make a copyl.

Am I the only one that uses pleasuredome.org.uk ??

@steelhorse
Download the latest 0.135 rom set and what ever they have as the latest CHD's.
Also download the latest ver of mameui (32bit version)
http://www.mameui.info/
Copy all CHD folders and ROM files into the roms folder (for example) c:\mameui\roms
You can also configure mame to use an alternate rom path but you must specify it within the mameui interface.
Done deal.

The real best bet is to use a ROM manager, such as clrmamepro, which checks to see if you have the correct ROMs for your MAME version, and corrects them if there have been changes from version to version.

Get it here: http://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/, and be sure to read the documentation before using it.

Holy cow -- that's a great idea!

It sure was miserable for me a couple of years ago when I tried to do this manually....

Some roms a "split sets" meaning that with all the versions and boots of ONE rom shared files are not in all the roms to save space. SO the MAIN rom has all the files you need.
