Problem with super mario (MW) pinball drop targets...

I picked up a Super Mario Bros. Mushroom World pinball a little while ago and have been working on it since. I think I have everything pretty well fixed on it except for one thing that has me stumped. It's sort of hard to explain, so I also shot a video of the problem and put it up on youtube and will post the link to that video below.

Basically, the rules of this pin have you advance through 8 levels, and the way you advance through the levels is by knocking down drop targets. Each level it will light up (and pop up) the drop targets for that level. When you knock one down, the light goes out too, and once all drop targets are down, the DMD tells you the name of the new level and the drop targets reset (in a new order) and you have to knock them down again to advance.

My machine works perfectly as long as you don't drain any balls, I have been able to make it through all 8 levels (it just starts you back on world 1 and cycles through them again), but if you drain a ball (no matter what level you are on), when it resets the drop targets, it lights up an extra drop target (or sometimes multiple extra drop targets depending on the level you are on when you drain the ball). The extra drop targets that get lit, don't pop up though, so there is no way to drop them and advance levels (I have even tried to rock the drop target to hit the switch, but that doesn't seem to do it either, there is no way to un-light that drop target, so you are stuck on that same level from there on out).

The video of this happening can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dX81fRZ99kA

I did just change out a transistor on the main driver board (that was for a coil that was stuck on), but everything else there seemed fine, didn't see any other problems on that board. I'm not even sure if that would be something that could be caused by a bad part on a board as it almost seems like something wrong with the programming, but I'm not even sure really where to start looking. Does anyone know what this could be or where I should start looking to track this down? Any help is really appreciated, I'm so close to getting this machine up to 100%.

I don't have an answer for you but I have a question about the game play (I have the game too)...

There is that little overhead light thing with the images of the levels over the left ramp. Do those lights light up for you during the game? What is the point of them? My LEDs light up during attract but not during the game. I know the lights work but they never light up during the game.

Sorry for off-topic. :)

That's funny that you ask this, because I actually watched your youtube vid pretty carefully to see if your little ramp shroud did anything too, mine is the same, works in attract, but does nothing during the game (seems like it should do something). They look like power ups (flower, leaf, mushroom etc...) so I figured maybe they would light up for different point values or something when hitting the ramp, but nothing. I wonder if we both have broken machines or if that is how it is supposed to be.

I really think this is a fun pinball, I hope I can get this last problem figured out.

Ha, that's too funny. I am thinking it's just attract eye candy? Seems odd that both of ours don't work.

How hard is it for you to hit that left ramp? I think I have my flippers adjusted pretty well but I can only hit it maybe 1 out of 5 tries. I am getting better at it, but it's just such a pain to actually get the ball in position on the right flipper.

I love the game too. It's pretty fun.

Yeah, I have a hard time hitting the ramp too (those little tube holes near the flippers make catching the ball on the right flipper pretty difficult). I have a little flipper plastic spacer thing that came with my machine (it was in the guts when I was cleaning it out). There is also a little paper card that says how to use it to space the flippers, let me know if you need me to scan it or anything, you could print it out and make sure your flippers are spaced correctly...

I just checked your site again and saw your pinball 2000 machine, I'm jealous, ever since I saw Tilt I have wanted to play that pinball, it looks like a blast.
