Hello, I picked up a Punch Out recently and everything on it seems to work well, except you cannot see your opponent! You can hit him and you can get hit (you can actually beat Glass Joe without seeing him), but you cannot see them.

Does anyone know what area of the board/what chip may be bad? I have very little experience with Nintendo games, but I would like to add more of them and would like to put this one in the gameroom. I don't see any chips that noticeably look damaged or not sunk well, but I will be looking over it in much more detail tonight.

Any assistance or suggestions you can provide are greatly appreciated!

Ram / rom

Have you read the manual and looked at the DIP switches? I believe there is a power on self test that will check the RAM etc.

Do the usual checks:

Check your voltages with a meter
PCB Connectors
Capacitors may be leaking
RAM
ROM

Yes, I have read the manual and looked at the dips. I don't think there are any settings for making your opponent invisible- unless that is the hardest setting ;-)

I have looked over the board and do not seen anything that would cause concern, although I have not had a chance to put my meter on it or put it into test mode. I had to leave the game at my storage unit, but brought the board home with me, so trying to determine if there is a chip in particular that may cause this. I will definitely put it into test mode ASAP, but if any of you Nintendo officianados have any ideas about what chip/element of the game may be the culprit, I would really appreciate your expertise!

if you put it into test mode (hold in the button while plugging it in at the same time) then test mode should give you back a reading of what rom is bad. Sure sounds like a bad rom. You can also try re-seating all socketed chips on the board set.

Thank you for sending this over! But holy shit dude, if this is you, you are a smart dude. It actually hurt my brain a bit to watch the debugging. So much I don't know about board repair it is pretty daunting, but the vid had a good ending, and hopefully it is just a socketed chip, or in this case the ribbon cable. I pulled all the chips and cables today and am hoping to get the game back over here from storage to boot er back up. Hopefully it won't take much, and actually it could definitely be the ribbon cable as it was in the vid. Thanks again. I will repost when I know more.

I just noticed it was the wrong vid!. :) I had another KLOV'er x77x send me his PO PCB that had enemy sprites missing and I fixed it for him but I forgot to record the process.

Doh!

I have 2 more PO's coming in this week to be repaired so stay tuned for those videos.

Regarding this AJCRM what was the result? I am in the same boat with 2 sets of boards. Any leads besides Ribbons, Reseating chips, Voltages for missing opponents?
Thanks
