Problem with joust...I recently purchased a joust & having the same problem with it, my defender was having, I have replaced the batteries, but the settings will not save. Everytime I boot up the joust goes straight to the service menu. Any help would be appreciated.

Could be a few things...

1. Battery holder is actually defective... many times they look ok but the reality is the metallic pads have split or even broken off preventing contact to the battery.

2. Bad CMOS RAM... fairly common actually.

3. Bad CMOS RAM select line\logic... I've seen this too.

4. Board thinks the coin door is open (preventing writes to the CMOS RAM).

1. Check for battery power on the back side of the mpu at the solder points for each battery.

2. yep

3. yep also

4 check to see if the coin door switch is working and check it at the board to be sure.
