Hi the other day i recived my very first arcade with it was a primal rage pcb witch works really well apart fom the sound. It seems to me the pcb is missing the wires from the sound board to the main board. Does any one know where i could get these wires for my board or is it possible to make them, i am a noob when it comes to this sort of thing. Or really good tut with pics would be a great help. By the way my arcade is a electrocoin spectrum deluxe.

Thanks

Alright, I just did one of these the other day. There's two ways to do it. Is the light, the led On on your sound board? I messed with mine for a long time, it wasn't getting power to that board so the light didn't come on. If the light is on, you're ready to go. Also, there's a sound test in the test menu that will test the sound board. If the board is bad, the 'checksum' won't come back and it will give you an error.

If you find the manual online, the soundboard sends sound out of the connector towards the bottom of the board (away from the jamma connector). The original cabinet connected there... that's how I wired mine up. 3 speakers, two wires each.

I BELIEVE, you can jumper the wires from the left speaker output on that connector, down to the connector on the edge of the board near the jamma connector. This basically routes the sound back into the main board, and out the jamma connector to the speakers hooked up to the jamma connector. I haven't hooked it up that way, but I think that's how it's done.

Okay mate just checked the lights on the sound board ive got a solid light on the red light and the green light on the sound board. and a red light on the main board. I did the test and everything comes back okay. So whats next mate. I really appreciate your help.

I think I may have even asked this before another time (and got told "no")... isn't there a way to throw this game into mono sound output and it just use the JAMMA speaker wiring?

the special header I thought was just for right channel audio and a sub.

EDIT: just threw it up in MAME. no dip switch or anything for that. shit.

All you need to do is run a jumper wire from the two wires that are leaving the sound board (look at the schematics!) and tie them into the two pins that feed the jamma harness speaker wires.

Wait a second, i'll go look it up.

P8 is the connector on the audio board. Run a line from pins 6 and 7 to the two pins on the main board edge connector that run out to the speakers. I believe that is pin 10 (and the one across from it). You could even solder them directly to the jamma pins on the board. There's probably a tidier way to do it using that connector on the edge of the main pcb, but I don't know for sure. Set the game up in "mono" and voila.

I know what you're saying about jumpering the wires, but I tried the rom in MAME and I didn't find any settings at all for changing between mono and stereo, that's what I was talking about before when OP was like "huh?" lol

I don't know if it's necessary to scrape away the top layer of the JAMMA fingers, but I know that solder sticks to those pretty neatly if done right!

I guess alternatively couldn't you just remove the P8 header entirely and solder the speaker wires directly there and run them to the speakers? I don't even know what this connector looks like, otherwise I'd entertain building them myself.

No need to do all of that stuff. There is a connector right on the main board for carrying the signal to the JAMMA connector.

On the sound board there is connector P8:
1
2
3
4
5 KEY
6 LEFT SPEAKER +
7 LEFT SPEAKER -
8 RIGHT SPEAKER +
9 RIGHT SPEAKER -
10 WOOFER +
11 WOOFER -

On the main board there is connector JAUD:
1 LEFT SPEAKER -
2 LEFT SPEAKER +
3 KEY
4
5 RIGHT SPEAKER +
6 RIGHT SPEAKER -

I'm not familiar with the 'electrocoin spectrum deluxe' but it looks to be a stereo cabinet. Just find some connectors that fit P8 and JAUD and connect the 4 left and right speaker wires.

It's not really important for a speaker connection.

Thanks CMAC, I thought that connector on the pcb would do that, but didn't know the pinout.
