Is it possible to get mono sound out of a primal rage board? I know just wiring one speaker would do it, I thought there would be a switch from strereo to mono.

There's no switch or menu control to change it from stereo to mono. I did have one board that came with an inter-board audio cable with two connectors on one end: one marked stereo and one marked mono. The mono one simply had both channels combined. It looked original but who knows.

kinda like CMAC said, I guess alternatively you could just chop your stereo harness and combine the channels at the speaker end. if there's some factory-ish harness that does the same thing I don't particularly see how it would hurt... any other takers?

I remember reading that Primal Rage (or at least some versions of the pcb) used a very strange custom wiring setup for the audio, something that was completly not jamma compliant.. Is this true? I remember seeing some boards on ebay that were rigged to be jamma compliant but eh.

I'm really interested in buying a board but to be honest, I want to leave my jamma cabs 'pure'.

I'm pretty sure you can make it mono, there's a connector on the edge of one of the main boards, that has a small harness that leads up to the smaller daughter board. There's something to do with that connector that makes it mono versus stereo, I had to hack one in once.

Thanks for the replies. Hmmm...I'm thinking of making a small stereo to mono circuit. Maybe that will work.

It's not that strange. On the audio board there is a header strip that has Left + and -, Right + and -, and Subwoofer + and -. You can wire the speakers straight to that which is what I think is done in a dedicated Primal Rage. There is also a header strip on the main board that connects to the JAMMA edge connector 10/L and 11/M. This is why many people think the sound isn't working on their Primal Rage board when they plug it into a JAMMA cab - if you don't have the wiring going from the sound board to the main board you don't get anything off the JAMMA edge connector. It's easy to build the connector/wiring between the two boards and keep your JAMMA cab 'pure' for mono or stereo.
