I know that there are a ton of MK and Street Fighter Experts here, and Killer Instinct and Tekken Pros, but was or is anybody a master at Primal Rage? Did anyone go down to the local arcade back in 94, 95 or 96 with the sole purpose of absolutely crushing and owning everyone else at this game? If so, who's your favorite fighter and what tips have you got? It's been my only fighting game for 4 years and my son loves it. I think it's time to take it to the next level.

I don't think I was a master, but I used to play this back in college all the time. It was awesome. I remember and playing against my girlfriend at the time and eating Little Ceasar's crazy bread in between battles.

I also remember part of what made the game so entertaining was that you could fart and pee on your opponent if you were the gorilla character. :) Definitely a fun game, and it was different than the endless parade of 2 Player fighting games.

I used to work at a Pizza Hut that had a Primal Rage and SF II next to each other. I played the Primal Rage more than the SF, but I never became a "Master" at it. I enjoyed playing it, but it never held and real attraction for me as I couldn't do combos/special moves as easy as I could with MK. Still a great game and I fire it up on the Mame cab every so often.

I certainly was no master, but I could always crap in my hand and fling it across the screen.......

And that was even before I ever put the quarter in the game. :p

It did get a lot odd looks from the arcade attendant.....He never wanted to give me change for some reason. ;)

I was an average player and still am. Armadon was always my favorite but I like them all. Download the FAQ if you haven't already and prepare to RAGE! It has so much info on this game and is fun just to read. The big combo names are great but so damn hard to get in the game.

Peeing Monkeys Tell No Lies!

I was never a master either but i was ok, i'd throw it some quarters while i waited for my turn on MK/Tekken (kinda the same way i treated time killers).

I recently picked up a working boardset with the filterboard to add to my collection.

is it true that if you plug this in a regular jamma cab, you wont get any audio? I remember reading somewhere that you need a special adapter to get the audio.. Heck I remember seeing a modified board on ebay that was 'jamma ready' and the seller said it was rare to see that mod done of them.

I really want to own that game, there is no decent port of it!

I could hold my own with Blizzard and Chaos. I was a master at the MKs and KIs, but there was never interest with others to become a master at Primal Rage.

from what i'm told the filter board isn't needed, tho i have it and it plugged into my spider-man cab that was converted to jamma (from sega), i got audio but i didn't try it without the filterboard (it was all attached to the metal plate still so i just left it as is).

i love hearing the bird in the background music randomly during attract mode.

I am no master myself (I'm a big fan of Armadon) but from what I've heard Chaos is basically the best character in the game. If you wanna piss people off who don't know the game well, I know that Talon and Vertigo both achieve that fairly easily.

It's partially true. The audio is output from the sound board in three channels: left, right and subwoofer. In a dedicated cabinet the speakers are connected directly to the sound board. To get the sound to the JAMMA edge connector you simply wire the connector on the sound board to a connector on the main board. I've had several of these boards and only one came with an official looking connector that was labeled and wired for either stereo and mono depending on which connector you hooked to the main board.

used to play it a lot at the arcades in south tx. I was only good with Talon, and even then I wasn't a master by any stretch. Killer Instinct was my game, I was a god at it. My initials were GOD lol. Talk about self absorbed teen attitude.

Anyway, I loved Rage. I couldn't wait for Primal Rage II but it never came out. I dont even know if it's emulated properly now, I haven't tried to play it in ages. Loved playing as Talon and Chaos. But once an update came out, it made the combos less satisfying? Im not sure if I'm describing it properly. I remember getting like a 7-10 hit combo was like 'wow' and the thunder/lightning would boom and crash, but then once they updated it to the 2nd version, those sound effects only showed up after a much higher combo count. After that I stopped playing, I think I got into something else. I think that's about the time Street Fighter Alpha came out, or something like that. Still tho, I wouldn't mind the board and a cab to put it in that I could modify to just have the 4 buttons.
