Prices have dropped like an anvil on the everyday classics like PacMan and Joust. What about the uber rare stuff? These are games that collectors (even here on KLOV) will pay eBay prices (or more if it's anonymous). I'm seeing a lot of them change hands right now. Seems like the prices have held up or even risen. I'll throw a few of my opinions first. So, what's the going rate for.....

Star Wars Cockpit $2500
Major Havoc Dedicated $2500
Wooden Blaster $3000
Zektor $3000
Demon $3000
Eliminator 4P $3000
Boxing Bugs $2000
Cosmic Chasm $3000
Varkon $3000
Aztarac $3000
Quantum $1800
War of the Worlds $2000 Color $3000
Warrior $2000
Barrier $2500
Sundance $2500

My 2 cents on pricing-

My 2 cents. Prices are for collector quality, not beat up projects.

Star Wars Cockpit $2500 Probably less ~$2000
Major Havoc Dedicated $2500 More- ~$4000-4500
Wooden Blaster $3000 More ~ $5000
Zektor $3000 Close, maybe a little less ~$2500
Demon $3000 I'm sure you could get $5K+ if one was for sale.
Eliminator 4P $3000 Higher $4-5K
Boxing Bugs $2000 Less ~$1000 this is not that rare.
Cosmic Chasm $3000 About right maybe a little less $2500
Varkon $3000 More $4500+
Aztarac $3000 More ~$4k
Quantum $1800 just right $1500-2000
War of the Worlds $2000 Color $3000 -Less $1500-2000- The gameplay is lame.
Warrior $2000 - No opinion
Barrier $2500 No opinion
Sundance $2500 No opinion

Same with games as it is with coins or any other collector's market. Demand fluctuates for the items that are more widely available with market/economic conditions, but there's always going to be demand for segments where the supply is extremely limited. As a result, in a crap economy the price plummets for common items but stays steady or even rises, though usually at a slower rate, for the items which are truly hard to come by and sought after.

Eliminator 4P $4000
Boxing Bugs $1200 All over the place
Cosmic Chasm $3000-$4000
Varkon $3000-$4000
Aztarac $4000-$4500

Honestly I don't think a Demon is ever going to surface....Although it would be real nice to see it...

I myself think the expensive stuff took the biggest hit of all in this hobby. I dont see the common stuff much lower than it was a year ago. I wouldnt even think about spendin 1k on anything with a monitor, now a pin thats another story :D

You forgot EDOT $2500-$3000

people seem to be asking more for games than they had been before but the question is at these prices are any of them selling. My guess is they're not. Of course high dollar rare games are usually less effected than common titles because the money they command usually means that the buyer has large amounts of cash to spend on luxury items. I would think people in this situation are usually less likely to be greatly effected even in hard economic times.

Yeah, do you think people are pricing based on money needs rather than what the actual cab is worth? Or is it like fishing, you toss the line in the water and maybe pull up a lost treasure chest?

You and I probably cruise the same CL listing areas, apparently you've been noticing it too. Unreal prices as of late.

You are probably 80% correct on that. A lot of people, think what they have sitting in his/her garage all dusty, rotting and not taken care of is all of the sudden golden because they heard someone at work say that a friend of a friend was looking for an arcade machine. So the owner dusts it off and sprays some windex on it and think NOW that it's worth 5x times the amount they paid for it, or got it for free in a lot of cases. Because is "Vintage or Old".

A car bill is due, or house insurance is due and all of the sudden there dusty mouse eaten pac-man is worth $1000. Sad really...

I agree..

I have to agree with Wundercade on this one...I am in the Sacramento area and see most of the same CL listings and they are, for the most part, way off...and when you try to contact the seller and offer anything lower than their asking price they call you a lowballer, among other choice words..
When you see a guy trying to sell a beat-up Karate Champ for $700 you know they think they have a "jewel" and are trying to get someone sucked in to buy it..
I bought my Karate Champ at the height of all the crazyness a few years ago and I only paid $350...sold it for $550 after adding a new CPO and monitor..ended up basically breaking even but I knew I couldn't get more for it..

Anyway..the rare stuff will always be worth what people are willing to pay...

I am surprised how much CRAPPY Pins are still selling for...$1200 for a Lethal Weapon? really? Have you PLAYED that Pin? (no offense to those that own it and love it..I'm just sayin..)

True

Pin prices are inflated still in my opinion. Much more work maintaining. Wish they would drop to more reasonable levels...
