I know when I first got on klov I would see members with a ton of games and thought...man,that mofo must be loaded to be able to spend that much on all those games.But....after being on here for some time I now think....man,that mofo must have scored an assload of super cheap or free games.

So I now pose the question....how much is your arcade worth? And by that I mean how much did you buy each game in your arcade room? This DOESN'T include money poured into it for possible restore, etc but simply what you bought each game for.

I'll go first.

Marvel Super Heroes in 25" dynamo - $385
DK - $150
DK Jr - $150
Frogger - $150

After set up of the cab i bought.
I would value my machine Neo 29, and 4 slot Neo and games about 700?
=-)
And even funnier, I keep kicking around offing it for another one I want..
but I'm going to be offing some parts and other stuff to get my 2nd ;)
Damn this bug!!

I think the cost of restoration should be included for a true measure of worth. In some cases, I've spent more on the resto than the initial cost of the cab :(

Tom

Is this a KLOV value, Ebay Value, What I'd them them for value?
I know that I should have paid off my student loans with the money.
30 games in the collection at any given time and 9 are pretty good pins.

The value comes right in under to damn much, but much less than some fellas spend on a fishing boat or hunting gear. I spend about 8% to 10 % take home on the hobby each year. I don't drink, I don't smoke, so I justify it that way. I've been collecting for about 10 years. I am pretty sure that an accountant would probably hate me.

I don't usually get that smoking great of deals. When I do the machines cheap they usually need enough work to negate the original price being low. Iowa is a terrible place to find games.

Whatever I have spent on the hobby is nothing in comparision to the enjoyment I have had, and the interesting people I have met and friends I have made along the way. Eventually all this stuff will be worthless. The real value in this hobby for me at least is all the enjoyment.

Same with Nebraska, there are some great people around here that I have met and chatted with, but it seems all of us have to travel out of state, or have it shipped to get something here. Point in case, I'm having to road trip out of state next weekend for a game, plus picking up a few others for fellow KLOVers while I'm there. Some of the experiences are what make it worth it also, it means there's a story to every game.

Okay, let's see:

Tempest - trade for repair help
Robotron - $50
Lethal Enforcers - $100
Q*Bert - Traded a free Xevious to a friend for it
Gyruss - free from work as Christmas Bonus
Frogger - traded a free pinball to a friend for it
Carnival - Trade for repair help
8-liner cab - free (will be turned into horizontal JAMMA cab)
Karate Champ - trade for repair help
Super Mario Bros - $20
Joust cocktail - free
Popeye Cocktail - free from work in trade for 2 monitors

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Grand Total - $170

Now, if I added up the other 14 games in storage, the price of my storage games would be - um - $157.

And I have a GT at my parent's that I bought for $250 - my most expensive purchase to date...

Many of my games were in the 100-200 range but when you factor in the cost of shipping (for some, not all) and $1000+ to restore each one, none of em are cheap.

Chris, 1000, I think a bit more...

By buying and selling, outside of the store sales, I was about even until I dropped some coin for the cocktail joust and getting it shipped to Hawaii. Right now, with all my games I would say I'm about 2000 in, which is less than 100 equivalent per game. I got very lucky with some multi sales early one, and it didn't hurt that 15 of my games sat on location at a friend cafe for a while....
the 2000 includes:
Black Knight
Black Knight 2000
Twilight Zone
Bride of Pinbot
Pinbot
Whirlwind
Cocktail Joust
Cockpit Spyhunter
2 Ms Pac Cocktails
and about 20 more, but those are the "big ticket" items

However....not one of my games looks like one Chris has restored, and I'm eternally jealous, regardless of how much he has spent.

Wow. That's impressive. Is that all your games? Your VAPs listing shows 26 games?

Unfortanately you won't get many people to fess up to what they spent. It's kind of like a code of silence some have here. After figuring out why some would not say what they spent in multiple threads, I figured out their reasons why. I myself now only give that imformation to very close friends and my spouse. I'll just say I have actually paid for less than half of my games.

Yep - 26 games (maybe 27, I don't have the 8-liners cab on there). Total cost was about $577 ($250 for just one cab), but a few are for sale, and a few more will be, so the purchase price of cabs in my possession will go way down if some of them sell.

But as Chris said, money put into them is a lot more than that. Fortunately, I have better access to cabs and parts than most people, so I can get them and repair them for a lot cheaper. Of course, if you added labor, then they are worth a lot more.

For example - my $50 Robotron had a bad monitor, bad CPU, bad power supply, faded and peeling bezel, and dirty and damaged joysticks. I fixed the monitor with about $30 in parts, pulled a good CPU (that I added 4164's and battery mod to) and PS from my parts boxes, pulled a very nice bezel out of a closet where I had been keeping it for three years, rebuilt the joysticks with almost new shafts from my joystick parts box, and it now just needs some new paint and stencils. Didn't cost ME that much to do, and I now have a Robotron that will sell for MUCH more than I paid or put into it - not that I plan to sell it...

You can't tell Klovers what you paid.
It'll come back to haunt you if you decide to sell here.

My game room has cost me over $3700 before any restorations, taxes, or shipping. Averages out to around $237 per game. I won't say what I paid for individual games though ;). Some were obviously way more than others. If I took restorations into account, probably tack on another grand.
