I posted a game for sale for $250 or for trade and listed a bunch of possibles, including XYBots. I got a reply offering an XYBots for cash. I asked if $250 was acceptable and the other guy said "you know what they go for. I am not wanting to get top market but I do want a fair price." Isn't $250 a fair price? Should I hold firm on this?

My rationale: The eBay "I wish" price for this unit has been $600-$800 for the most part. (Someone has one up for a grand right now but that ain't happening in this lifetime.) Typical "real prices" are a third of wish prices or less. The game is not a high earner for my arcade so I would be getting it mainly because I like it personally. Finally, I'm not sure it's worth it to me to pay more than $250, and I'd actually prefer $200 or less, but I'm a bit hemmed in by having made the trade offer that effectively offers in that value range, so I am willing to honor that.

The seller says it works 100% and even though this isn't a grail game by any stretch of the imagination, I'd hate to let a good unit go over what might end up being a small price differential. Of course if the guy wants anything over $300, I don't think I even consider it. It's just too much for that equipment, and to even offer the three I would have to see it as a near-perfect specimen I think. He hasn't proffered a number so maybe he's just poker-facing me and has no idea of its value, typical of most "storage wars" / "pawn stars" CLers.

Thoughts?

I could justify spending $350 for the game. The parts are dearly needed by other cabs, so no doubt they sell more if parted. But more than $350? Meh, maybe if you reaaaaaaally wanted one. I had a Vindicators and would have loved to have a Xybots next to it. I would have spent $300 for a nice one. $250 isn't a bad offer at all, but could be a bit low.

About 6 months ago, there was one on the Phoenix Craigslist for $150 which lasted for 2 months. It's definitely not worth more than $250 and that guy should consider himself lucky to get that much.

Unless he is the one that bought the $150 machine and is trying to flip it for more money...

If you see one for $250 and you want it, you had better grab it.

Value is all subjective. You don't want to kick yourself between now and the next time you find one nearby.

What are you going to save? $100?

I didn't pay much for mine and it doesn't get much play, but it's MINE!

I was the one who picked one up in Phoenix for $75. $250 is not to far off depending on it's condition. but you would have better luck selling it at say $175. It's all about the economy and demand for the game or it's popularity.

How much I value a game is in the fun factor. If I think I can get a lot of fun out of it I will buy on the high side of the market for a game.

If the game is close paying a more is not an issue, Considering gas is at the 4 plus mark.
A game close by can be more expensive. But cheaper that a far away game at a lower cost.

Thanks a lot, guys. I am letting him know that even $250 may be too high, but that I'd honor that offer since that's what he replied to. I said I wouldn't be interested if he wants to make more than that, but he is certainly welcome to take his chances on eBay and hopefully make a bigger sale... no worries either way and best of luck.

I appreciate the input, thanks!!!

Make sure the joysticks work. You should track down the rebuild kit for them. I should be its the atari logo kit, but confirm.

I think top dollar on a xybots would be about $500. So a fair price would be about $250-$350 depending on th sticks.

Bingo. Exactly. Spoken from someone who has seen the rise and fall of arcade game prices.

I paid $40 for mine not working. Said it just needed a ps and was right. Spent a couple more bucks on reworking clunky controls. All said and done, spent prbly ~$100. Cab is near mint too. $250 is more than fair for one if you really want it. Intruder alert!
