I just ran into a local dealer who has 2 untested, mostly complete Firepower pinballs. Missing plungers, complete playfields. but the rest looks to be complete. Somewhat worn playfields, but good cabinets and backglasses. He wants $600 total for both, untested, as is, very very dusty. Have been sitting for years. Thoughts? Is Firepower fun?

Firepower is one of my favorites! If the playfields, backglass, and side-art are in good shape and the games are complete, I say go for it! Boards are easiest to fix (in my opinion). If you were closer, I'd split the deal with ya!

I would say that is a good deal - they regularly sell for $700-$1000 around here.

I got the one I have now on a trade-in, powers on but doesn't play. Some soldering is in my future for sure.

If you have never broughten a pin before ? I would remove the back glass and look at the Battery Holder for any acid or what not!

300 each is a good deal and there seems too be extra parts for this machine .. Yeah i would jump / Run fit them in somewhere! Hmmm get moving .. If i was closer they would be mine.

Anybody else think I should jump? I am wary of plunking down $600 for two most-likely broken pinballs, but I am a n00b when it comes to pin deals, mostly.

I wouldn't jump on that deal unless you like the game. Its not a bad price at all just not a steal because you have a lot of possible boardwork ahead of you.

I agree starting at $400 is the way to go. If the seller can 100% guarantee the boards and displays work perfectly then I would stick with $600.

Ugh... when someone like a dealer or an op is selling something like this "with dust on it b/c it's been sitting for years", don't ever ask them to guarantee ANYTHING! You'll blow the deal! They don't want to live with this crap, they just want the cash and to see it go out the door.

$600 is fair if the playfields are salvageable to some extent. If there is more wood than paint on either or both, the deal is obvioulsly less desireable. Original Firepower backglasses are tough to find in non-flaking condition. Make sure you look at those glasses front and back before determining if they are in good condition or not.

Offer the $400 and put the cash in front of him. Tell him you'll take the stuff and he'll never have to hear about them again. AS IS SALE. Make sure they're truly complete first ;). If he balks, pull another $100 out of your pocket. I'd hold on $600 if one or the other looks totally trashed because if one of them is, you're dealing with a parts machine (unless you like playing a pinball on a field of wood).

+1 $600 may be too much - You have some work to do to make these playable and if the playfields are worn on the planet it will be a touchup challenge. Not bad to do board repair and there is much documentation out there as this game gets a lot of love. I have two myself - one to play while I restore the other. One of my Steve Ritchie favs. Wish they would do a PF repro. Over 17K were made and most of the ones left are begging for a nice clearcoated PF. I'd camp out waiting for mine.

Non flaking back glasses are near impossible to find, not tough to find. I've been watching for years on eBay. If the playfield has any wood showing, especially around or on the planet, its not as great a deal. No repros and brutal to attempt to touch it up...look close and you'll understand why.

I would offer $400 for both too. I've seen nice, working FP's for $800 so saving another couple hundred to buy one working might be the safer route to go. That said, FP is a fun older pin and has cool voice effects, you won't be disappointed with the game.

You guys are lucky or something down south, $600 for two mostly complete Firepower's here and he wouldn't be asking this question...they'd be gone while he was typing it because he didn't just go get them.

I do agree, offer $400 simply because he may take that. But if you're offering $400...don't even plug them in. See if all the boards are there, or at least enough between the two for a single working pin. You could sell the other and get back some of your money later.

You guys are such stingy anal retentive fools, 2 identical pins I wouldn't question it so long as enough was there to make 1 good one. I'd then sell everything that was left and get a portion of my money back.

GO! NOW!

I didn't say to ask :) But it is worth asking if they work or not. Odds are they don't.

The boards are simple to work on and the displays are the only money hitter really. A set of new displays can cost around $200.

I bought a new backglass for the Firepower project I purchased a while back:

It cost $325 shipping included with a new chrome lift channel.

Resale is the name of the game. You can take a bath quickly if you have to start replacing things. I only replaced my backglass because of all of the black touchups.

Do you have some sort of relationship with the seller? It doesn't hurt to ask questions.

I hate to even admit this but I bought my pin based off of the experience I had playing the Williams Classic pinball game on the Wii. I figured if ti was that much fun on a console it's got to be just as satisying if not more on the real machine. I was right! ;)
If you have a Wii Firepower is on that game.

Video of it:

Damn you Deadly. Now I am going tonight to buy the pinball hall of fame for my Wii. Everytime I scan through this site I find more ways to spend money on games. LOL. BTW thanks for posting about that.

Firepower was a fun one I remember playing as a kid.

If you can get the XBOX360 version of it. It also has Medieval Madness and No Good Gofers and Tales of the Arabian Nights. I have it for wii,psp and 360 hah. It's an awesome pinball game. Yes it's not REAL pinball, but it is the best pinball simulation out there IMO.

That sounds like a great deal -- especially if you can get both running. That would be pretty sweet if you had a modded one with the dop targets next to one with the standups. I'd jump on this deal for that reason alone.

I've had mine running for about a month now and haven't even touched my arcade games. It's a real addictive, fast, fun game.
