I want to turn my 2 player TMNT JAMMA board into a 4 player. Would it be worth selling the 2 player or just upgrade the board to 4?

I'm 99% sure it's just a rom swap so it should be pretty easy to get the roms burned for you if you don't have a burner. You could PM Steph here on the forum as he has a rom burning service.

It's just a ROM swap. I have a couple of the 4 player boards. I'd be will to trade a set of the 4 player ROMs for the 2 Player ROMs. IIRC, it is not even a full set, there are only a couple of ROMS that are different.

I may take you up on that Ken. What would happen if I were to plug in the 2P TMNT board into a 3-4 play cab (battletoads for example)? I would imagine that players 3&4 would just be un-selectable.

There is a separate harness for the 3rd and 4th players, it attaches to the little white headers on the PCB.

I converted my 4 player TMNT to a 2 player a long time ago, works great.

Then what's the reason to convert a TMNT board to a 2 player if you can just disconnect the 3&4 player harnesses?

With 3 and 4 disconnected you can't play as two of the characters. The 2 player ROMs allow you to select all 4 turtles :)

Cool thanks that explains a lot. Another quick technical question. If I wanted to throw in a CPSII board like Alien Vs Predator in a 4 player Konami cab, how would I hook players 3&4. Looking at pics of the PCB I don't see any 15-pin connectors for the additional players.

I don't believe it runs the same connector IIRC. If it doesn't then you would have to re-wire the cab controls for the CPS-II. If you had to do that I would suggest putting some molex connectors inline so you can switch harness ends easily. That would take some crimping though. As long as each player doesn't need more than three buttons each you can run CPS-II games in there with no problem since Jamma supports three buttons a player. For example I have a CPS-II 1944 Loop Master I stick in my jamma cab all the time.
