Price check: The Simpsons Pinball (Data East)

So I came across one of these covered with junk but from what I can see the backglass is very nice. Play field looks relatively clean. Side art is all there but somewhat faded. Cabinet a bit banged up. Guy says it worked great until it "got a short".

2 questions:

What would you offer for it without plugging it in? (since it's covered with junk and not near an outlet)

What's the value on one in this condition but fully working?

Re: Simpsons Pin

There is one for sale In my area locally their asking $3500.00. (FULLY WORKING) I would offer a few hundred Bens and see where it goes, green talks.

Hey I gave you some karma just for answering! :) Wait...3500??? Not for The Simpsons though right? This is the Data East older model thing. Probably wasn't worth that much brand new.

I've seen $1600-$1800 for a really nice working example of one.

Really dirty, not working and who knows what is hiding?...$500?

Really? They sell for that much? Are the prices on Pinpedia believable at all? It shows them selling for more like 800 to 1200 if I remember right. But I think those are auctions and may not be representative of real life sales through other means.

I offered $250 and he said the lowest he would go is $400 so I'm letting him sit on it a bit. Maybe I should have snatched it eh?

The one you were given a link to on Ebay is a tad out of line at $1k, but only by about a couple hundred...it's got a whack of PF wear.

I know if it's as you describe, and it was near me...you'd have already lost out at $400, as I'd have pulled it out from under you. ;)

if the guy is not willing to clean off the junk to let you test it or at least run an extension cord to it than i would pass at 400. he is hiding something.

Without being able to see what is/isn't working, you are definitely taking a risk since displays aren't cheap. I'd consider it at $400, but any more than that and I'd be leery without more information.

i have saw working data east simpsons go for around $800 in decent shape......non working as high as $600.....
$250 would be a great deal.

without a doubt in my mind RUN AN EXTENSION CORD OUT and plug it in.........you would buy a car without a test drive or at LEAST starting it up....unless that car was dirt dirt cheap

But....sometimes you get a better deal if you don't try it out first and then find the problems later. Like say, I tell him ok to the $400 but only if the game powers up and the displays work. If he agrees and then I plug it in and one or both displays don't work....well now it's perfectly reasonable to ask him to go lower than his original bottom line price.

But I couldn't do that because I had exactly $283. There's a good chance the machine will still be there later though and I'll get another run at it. And if not, well there will be another deal to be had later.

I wish I could get my hands on some pins for the prices some of you think is market or reasonable...if they popped up around here at those prices, they'd be gone within 5 minutes.

What about big giant stuffed bears? He has two of those for sale as well. One standing on it's hind legs looking like he's going to maul you and the other standing peacefully on all fours.

Well I went back and looked at it again. He cleared everything away from it. The playfield is a little rougher than I thought. It comes up and you can hear it say "The Simpsons" and lights flash and stuff but the displays don't work and it doesn't play.

Does Pinscore make a set of displays for this? I took a quick look but didn't see them....maybe just need to look closer though. How much would those be? I did open the back and I don't see any acid damage from the ancient batteries.

I didn't take any pics of the game but I snapped a pic of one of his bears he is selling. Claims it was used in the movie Road House. He's kind of a character....this bear is overlooking his bed in the living room.

i find it very satisfying rescuing pinballs from people who dont care for them very much

sometimes i pay too much and sometimes i score bigtime

ask them how much do they think its worth all fixed up
their answer will tell you all you need to know and what you will need to do

that machine is worth $400 probably. i would stick to $250 with bad displays and who knows what else....and thats not minding the playfield still. tell him bad displays will cost you over $100 easily. i probably wouldnt buy it for $400 with bad displays and not working.......only because i am so far from a master pinball repair person and im not positive what i would get into it.......

oh......and how much for the stuffed bear shipped to zip code 15547..........lolol JUST KIDDING!!!!

Well I couldn't resist. I broke down and offered him more though and picked it up for $275. :)

I can't believe you got that for $275. That shit just doesn't happen here. You should have offered him $400 and had him toss in that big ass bear!!
