Hello,

I recently came across an Asteroids for sale. The game powers up, coins up and is playable, but the monitor has a bright white dot in the center of the screen and many other objects leave long trailing lines. I've never worked on a vector monitor before...is this thing about to die? Or is this an adjustment issue?

The 2 volcano buttons are different. I think the black is the original...? The 2P button is missing...can I get replacements? Also, the control panel is starting to flake. I assume I could get an overlay? There is also no sound, but I wasn't able to get inside to see if it's something stupid like a loose wire or volume setting; should I be concerned?

They are asking $300 for the machine, which seems high as it sits, but I'm thinking there may be room to make some money if it can be easily repaired. Any advice is welcome.

Thanks.

I dunno. I pickuped up a nonworking upright for $115 (board issue) and a non-working cocktail for $150 (monitor issue), but the cabinet conditions were really good. Another $110 got the upright working (Talon2000 board repair), and I have a $15 cap kit for the cocktail to try. I'd only pay $300 if it were working and complete, and you didn't have to do anything it it.

If you are buying to flip and don't know anything about it, then I would pass. What happens if you can't fix it ? Or sell it for more ? Then what ? Does it get parted out ?
How long are you willing to sit on it ? Asteroids don't go for much. Not a lot of room in that one to make money. Not sure what makes you think there is...

Been out of the loop for a while. Hoping it could be something simple & possibly talk them down further.

Thanks for the info.

Looks like the brightness is just turned up way to high. Turn it down and it may be just fine. But....it likely has burned the center of the screen now.

Where I'm at you can get Asteroids games in that condition for $150 all day long. $75 in the early evening.

Exactly the info I was looking for. I'll forget about this one.

Thanks to everyone.

Sounds like the right answer if you are just trying to flip it. If it's a game on your wish list then it's likely an easy fix and not a horrible price. Here where I'm at they go for cheaper than many parts of the country.

Also, if you bought it and hung onto it then new board has been announced that will allow you to play other vector games on there too. But I'd be sure that monitor isn't to terribly burned before considering that.
