I have the opportunity to pick up a Stern Godzilla in mint condition. It is a HUO machine. Boston Pinball says average retail is $1,200 and Pinpedia says $1,800. This guy is asking $1,900. How much value does mint condition add?

Jeff

It sometimes depends on the title. If I remember, Godzilla was a very low production game. However, most sega games do not get much love. Maybe a few members here have one and will chime in.

I went and picked it up. The game is in awesome condition. They bought it from someone who won it in some McDonald's game in the late 90's. It has been in their home ever since. The only issues I could find were the start decal was a little damaged and the TAXI targets were worn. There were also corrosded batteries on the MPU, but no damage to the board. I will replace the batteries with a super cap anyway. Hopefully I didn't screw up, but I think I can probably get $2500 out of it.

That's gonna be a hard game to flip for $2500. Even though it's low production (500 made) ...it's not really that desirable by collectors (it's a Sega) or Godzilla fans (it's based on the Emmerich movie). Godzilla's generally a $1000-1500 game, even in good condition.

you are probably right. I may have paid a little too much. According to Pinpedia, average retail is around $1800. Hopefully I can at least get my $ back out of it when I sell it. It'll be in our gameroom until then. It is a very nice machine. It has a lot going for it, even though it is a Sega, it's a pretty fun machine.

Yeah, it's pretty fun...the giant molded toy and green ramps give it a distinct look, and the shaker and magnets are well integrated with the theme. I'd get one for $1000....hehe.

I think you will be lucky to get your money back on that one. :( Definitely not at 2995 when there are games like RFM for 2400 LOTR 3500 and CFTBL for 2500. Im sure these examples aren't HUO and in need of repair or shopping but I wouldn't buy a Godzilla unless it dispensed free 100 dollar bills lol. GL on your sale! Hope you're able to break even on it or at least enjoy it for a while.

I think I can probably get my money back. Maybe not. Either way, it's still a pretty fun game and the kids are enjoying it. Probably pulled the trigger a little quick, but you can't wait around too long. If it had been a good deal, I would have kicked myself for missing it. Thanks for the input guys.

I think its a fun machine and if you have a documented HUO it might be worth the money you spent. Play it until you get tired of it.

Not sure how to "document" that it's a HUO. But I believe it to be. It is immaculate and I believed the guy I bought it from.

I do have it listed at that, but I don't expect to get it. We are going to keep it in the gameroom for a while and then I'll lower the price to a more reasonable level when we get tired of it. However, if someone is willing to pay or or makes a reasonable offer, I'll send it on it's way.

Jeff

Documenting HUO is exactly that, there are documents to prove it. The receipt from when it was purchased, shipping documents, etc. If it was truly HUO it would have been bought from a distributor that would have provided some documentation of the sale.

Again, I like the machine so hope you have fun playing it.

supposedly, this one was won in a McDonald's game that was promoting the Godzilla movie at the time. I don't have any of the paperwork though.

Jeff

Essentially condition speaks for HUO, not receipts. If a person owns a bar, store, resturant, etc., what prevents him from buying a pin from a distiributor and placing it in one of those locations and letting the general public play it? Nothing. A HUO will look like a HUO, receipts or not.

This thing is near mint. It just has a peeling Start sticker on the lockdown bar and the taxi stickers were beat up. I remote mounted the battery pack. Fortunately no corrosion got on the MPU. It really looks nice in the gameroom.

Here's a couple of pics of it.

I bought a gross, dirty Austin Powers from a closed fastfood restaurant - but luckily it had no cabinet wear at all, and once I cleaned/de-mylared it, it damn well could have passed for "HUO" ....condition is king! :)
