This is a bit longer than your usual price check thread...

Thinking about picking up a Star Trek: The Next Generation pin. I see them listed for around 4K, but I want to know what they are actually selling for, because they don't seem to move very fast at those prices.

My research...

On Pinside: $3,500, people in the thread indicate its nice, it'll sell quick, etc. But it's still available after 3 weeks.

On CL: $4,200 only listed for a few days, but no takers yet:

Mr Pinball Classifieds:
Two listed for $3,700 & $4,300 (no idea if they sold or not)

On Ebay, most are $4K-6K Buy it now, but actual auctions tell another story:

Sold for $2,500

Sold for $3,250

So, what should I expect to pay for a nice, working ST:TNG? Mind you, I'm not talking about a fully restored/modded/tricked out machine. Just a nice game that is ready to plug in and play.

Thanks.

$4000 should get you a nice restored one. The ones that sit at that price are not in that great of shape. A super nice one came up on ebay a couple of months ago for $4500, and it was gone within a couple of hours.

For $3000 - $3500, you should be able to find a nice one that works fully, and is in great shape but either not restored, or restored over a year ago.

It seems to be easier to get a good deal on this pin on ebay or pinside. Here, not so much.

There were quite a few last month that sold on ebay in the $3000 - $3500 range. I picked one up for $3100, and it is in nice shape, but the restoration was about 18 months old. The rubbers were pretty dirty, and a coil and a switch went out within 2 days of bringing it home, but otherwise, it is great.

There are a lot of people looking for this game, but they seem to be pretty picky. Once the right price/condition ratio shows up, the machine goes fast. This is not a rare game though, so you don't have to jump on the first one you see.

About $3,500, give or take depending on area too. I wouldn't sell mine for that though and I got mine dirt cheap a few years ago.

That $2,500 on eBay was a Buy It Now and was *WAY* underpriced, which is why it sold so fast. Whoever got that, got a steal.

I would have to agree, working, in solid shape, with a good playfield. around 3500 would be a good price.

Non working with unknown issues maybe in the low twos

I bought mine which is in awesome shape locally here on klov for $2500 in July. The only thing I had to do is replace the tiny spring in the trigger and a ir led in the ball trough opto.

I appreciate all of the input, although I'm getting conflicting reports.

Seems that I'll need 3K to spend before I start seriously looking, and even then could need to dig deeper depending on condition.

Thanks.

Those high prices are more west coast guys. I had been watching for a while and I have seen then go for $3K - $2.5K in good condition. I have seen them sit at $3.5K and up.

You're getting conflicting reports because prices are ALL OVER THE PLACE on it..

I sold mine for 3800, but I was asking 4200 and had done a lot to it.

Full LED kit including flashers
Full shop out including poppers and subway system and all diverters.
All new plastic set.
Pinbits protectors
Cliffy NZ and Catapult protector, and colored post sleeves
New pop bumper caps
Cannon dome mod.
Brand new replacement cannon harnesses, did both.

Had some decal damage on the head decals, but no wood damage and the other parts of the cabinet looked great, including the coin door. Shooter handle needed to be re-powered or plated, but was awesome other than that.

Wow, it's amazing how the prices on A-list pins have shot up... Glad that I'm not in the market for any!

I had a very nice STTNG - owned it for about 6 years. During that time, I did a complete, down to the bare playfield shop-out job on it and went through everything in the game. I sold it almost two years ago for $2600, and I thought that was a very good price for it at the time. That guy kept it for maybe a year, and then I saw him advertising it for $3000. I think that it would probably be at least a $3500 game in today's market.

It's not a game that I'd ever want to shop out again. It took me 3 months and ~$1000 in parts to do it right!

Here's what I did to mine:
completely down to the bare playfield on top, everything gone through on the underside
new alpha, beta, delta ramps with new ramp decals (Pinball Inc)
new clear plastics (Pinbits)
new clear plastic protectors (Pinbits)
new cannon wiring looms
new ramp protectors - alpha, beta, delta, and subway (Mantis)
new "easy break" plastics
laser-sighting cannons
flipper rebuilds with new coils
rebuilt pop bumpers
went through all VUK's, ball trough, all optos, pretty much everything under the playfield
extended outlane guides
green film on borg ship windows, green leds under ship
speaker upgrades - 8" subwoofer in cabinet, twin 5.25" 2-way speakers in head (with L-pad balance control)
cliffy hyperthin neutral zone protector
NOS neutral zone target
Hallmark Klingon Bird of Prey ornament
shuttle toy repainted & new decals
johnny lightning borg cube toy added
new playfield glass
custom topper
