Price Check: Pacmania?

Pac-Mania has been at the top of my "wants" list for quite some time. As Riptor said, it's an underrated game for sure and one I played the hell out of as a kid.
Haven't seen one pop up locally in years and these $165 marquee-only deals are kind of scaring me.

The prices of 300-400 you guys are quoting seems too low with what I've seen. If any of you has a Pac-Mania for sale at 300-400, let me know...I'll be beating down your door with cash and a case of beer :001_sbiggrin:

Really? Where'd you get that #?

I've seen 3 dedicated Galaga `88 on eBay in the past 4 months...

Yeah I've seen any number of Galaga 88 cabs for sale over the years.

It's not that great of a game anyway.

Pacmania is a very under rated game. In my opinion its one of the best of the pac series.
Real world price for the pcb right now is around $150-$200 working. They dont come up for sale very often and usually sell quick. You tend to see more complete games than parts for them. That ebay auction is really surprising. There had been a pacmania board on ebay for about a year at around $300 and as far as I know it never sold.
I think I paid $300 for mine several years ago. It was in good condition and just needed the monitor recapped. They came with Sanyo 20EZ and mine had the typical foldover on the left of the screen.
If you can get one for less than $400 in good shape I would grab it. The game is fun to play and has great music and sounds.

Interesting... I always wondered how Pacmania was received by the Pacman fans. We had one at our local arcade (along w/ a Dragon Spirit), and it seemed like it was hardly even played. And we had a lot of fans from the Pac series. I tried it a couple of times and never really got into it myself. But, this is coming from a person whom thinks Pac-land is the best out of all of them.

Now, Dragon Spirit was very popular. I'm sure it has to do w/ the killer audio it has. I give people a lot of credit if they can beat that sucker on one quarter....

As far as the price range goes - it comes down to region. I know I haven't seen a Dragon Spirit for sale in the Chicagoland area in a looonnnng time! The one chance I had to get one was about 4 years back. The thing was beat cosmetically to hell, and I believe he wanted 6 bills for it and was NOT budging. At the time, I figured I would find another one...heh....

Atariscott scanned and posted a ledger of pretty much every Atari game that listed how many were made of each here on KLOV. I remember being stunned that Robot Monsters and Galaga 88 were both under 200 in dedicated form (somewhere around 180 of each).

That is dedicated machines though mind you. Pretty sure they made a ton of kits. And isn't Galaga 88 the same cab as Pac-Mania and Dragon Spirit?

From Scott's thread:

http://www.atarigames.com/atarinumbers90s.pdf

136 Galaga 88 dedis. 850 kits. Unless it is a typo or fabrication.

And my bad, there were 371 Robot Monster dedis.

EDIT: On the bright side those of you who have burned or parted Pole Position machines have done relatively little wrong. 17K of those bastards floating around lol.

I think my issue with Pacmania is the jumping, makes it too easy, also you can't see the whole screen. Of the later pac-man games, I prefer Pac-Man Collection over it.

Pac-Mania has that initial "WOW" factor since it adds varied mazes, semi-3D graphics, large playfields, and (of course) the ability to jump. But once you get over all that it's pretty sub-par compared to the original Pac and Ms. Pac IMO.

I've been looking for a working Pac-Mania board (of course at the right price). I have a 60-1 in my Pac-Mania cabinet now, but really like the game and would love to get the PCB someday. PM me if you have one.
