Price Check or Opinions: Gottlieb Count Down

Has anybody played one before? Any figures to discuss?

I'll throw out the obligatory "price and condition" comment but it really depends on what you like in a pinball machine.

System 1 games typically have an EM feel to them and Countdown is no different. If you like drop targets then you'll like it because the game is basically all drop targets. It's not going to compare to newer games. If you don't like EM games then you probably won't like System 1 games.

I can pick one up with a decent cabinet and works except for an apparent sound issue. Price is $250. Yay or nay?

I would jump on it in a second personally. Others might not agree but you could part it out and make money at that price. Not that I'm saying you should do that...

A sound issue is not going to be very tough to fix (theoretically). The sound board on those games is very simple and you can even install a chime box if you prefer. The sound board is basically just a few 555 timers set up to generate tones and driven by solenoid driver transistors on the driver board. I'm not sure what games sell for in your area but you might be able to resell it for a profit once the sound issue is fixed.

I'm on a tail end of rebuilding my Count-Down, so I haven't had a chance to play it much yet, but I have played Tim's over at the Pinball Hall of Fame... it's a fun game, and easily worth $250 in good condition.
