Price Check & Opinions: Midway NHL Open Ice 2 on 2 Challenge

Hey guys, I just found one locally and thought it my be a fun addition to the basement......I'm just getting into pinball and just bought a Cirqus Voltaire and have never owned an stand up arcade before.

I know it's old and not anywhere near as good as the console games available...... I'm in Canada and a hockey fan, is it worth buying? is it fun? and at what price?

The ad is pretty weak, there's no pics in the ad and here's the description.
"Works pefect, this is a stand up arcade game."

I think it's a fun game and also being a hockey fan (Go Wings!) helps. :) It's basically NBA Jam on ice. Price wise it's hard to say if you don't what the condition of the cab is. They did make a dedicated 4 player version with full side art. Assuming it is the dedicated cab in good shape and working, I'd say $350 and up to $500 if it's in really nice shape. If it's a conversion cab, but still 4 players with a 25" monitor, I'd say $300 or so. Good luck and post pics if you get it. :)

I owned a dedicated cab. I think I paid $275 for it and sold it for $400. If you are die hard hockey fan you would probably love it, but you really need live players to play against for it to be any fun. For some reason most people who came over wouldn't touch it so I eventually sold it. To each his own though.

the thing ive noticed with alot of those late 90's sports games is that theyre just too new to have that classic appeal and too old for people who want to play cool sports games

but id imagine it would make a cool addition to your NHL collectables and give the guys something to play with when they come over to watch the game. the prices listed above seem about right

I've always enjoyed the NFL Blitz, NBA Jam, and NHL Open Ice games. I had an Open Ice, played through and beat every team and was facing random all-star teams when I traded it and a few other games for my Addams Family pin. I never did find anyone else that wanted to play the game against me, but I would still consider buying one again for the right price. For now, I'll play the Playstation version, as it's a solid port.

Well put, that's kinda what I'm scared of, but yeah it'd be cool to play against buddies using some of the 90's players.......

I'm a hockey fan for sure, it's the only sport I follow......and I'm in Canada ;)

I'm sure it'd get old some what quickly but I do have 3 boys under 4 years old that love hockey.......So it'd get played!

Yeah, I'd only buy it if it's a dedicated cabinet that's in decent shape with little fading.

I replyed to the ad, so I'll see if they respond......the ad says $500

I'd have no problem finding friends and family to play it, hockey's our sport!

btw, nice avatar....Cobain kicks ass, they've been my band since Bleach came out!

Well, I never did get a reply frome the seller......until today, he said my reply to the ad went to him spam folder, he's sending pics later. We'll see what happens.

I got the pics, they look good for iPhone pics...... the cabinet looks great with no fading or damage from what I can tell. He said it works perfectly and paid $1000 for it a few years ago, he's firm at $500. Should I do it?

I'm going to try to go tomorrow to check it out and maybe bring it home.

Anyone know where I can find the weight and dimensions for it? I want to make sure It'll fit throught the walkout 34.5" door opening or down the stairs to the basement.

dammit, the guy just emailed and said he thought about it and is going to pull the ad and not sell it now................

lol, well he emailed me 2 days ago and said he would sell it to me now, but only if I offered it back to him when I sell it, so I headed straight to his place and picked it up for $500.

My 4 year old has been playing it non stop since it landed in the basement!
