Price check on Star Castle

Egad. This is a tough one. Its one of those games that is either a steaming pile of parts to some collectors or a grail to others. I think a good median price range is $300 to $450. Artwork is a big factor.

It's one of the few games to tempt me into grabbing one before my stated moratorium on purchases and suddenly there are two of them available. One is priced at $200 and looks pretty nice. The other looks perhaps a shade shabbier but...has a kit that allows it to also play Rip Off along with a control panel. So.....I'm trying to decide what a fair price would be to offer on that one since I'd rather be able to play both games. But then the $200 one is tempting.

Or maybe I should just stick to my guns and not buy anything until after the new year. This is California after all and cheap games will pop up all the time. But I don't see these that often.

That's easy -- buy them both!

It's an okay game, but not all that exciting. I guess you could say that about a lot of 300 lb 30 year old video games though. I think Eliminator was a better version of this concept - the castle moves around, there are other ships shooting at you, there is a ship in the center that will come after you after a while, and it's in color.

I would get the one with the rip off kit so you can have some variety at least.

Working for $200 grab it bro...

Buy it, and bring it to our room at CAX 2012.

Sure, it's not a true color vector, but since it has that overlay, Dave and I will let it slide... Right, Dave?

I haven't seen or heard it in person. I understand there is sound but it's just not right. He's a bit far from me but I'll be in his area next week anyway so that's why I was considering it.

Offer him less if it has sound issues... I have a few extra sound boards, but wont be able to test until next year when I restore my Star Castle cocktail..

Its a fun game IMO!!
