I'm considering picking up a Mortal Kombat. Doesn't appear to be in an original cab., has no sideart and the CPO isn't stock. The guy is asking $250, I've not had a chance to see it in person yet, so I have no idea what the conversion was like or what the monitor looks like. All I'm really wondering is if the Mortal Kombat name is good enough that $250 makes sense. I'm not a huge fan of the game myself, it's for the lunch room at my office, so I don't need to like it.

So assuming the thing is in reasonable shape, is $250 okay? This will be the first "working" cab I've ever bought, I usually always get them dead or dieing so not sure what a fair price is.

Thanks in advance!

if the cab is solid and clean, looks pretty decent, and the game plays well that's not a horrible price though it's no steal either.

MK boards are pretty cheap and it's not too hard to throw one in an empty JAMMA cab with a kick harness.

Excellent, thanks for the reply. I'm going to try to get him down below $250, but we'll see. Who knows, it might be in such a sad state that it's not even worth $50... Looks like an old Neo Geo Dynamo cab from the pictures, but it's hard to tell.

i picked up an MK pcb set in a bulk buy and got a kick harness from Bob Roberts so i could stick it in a 19" Dynamo i had around... liked it enough that when a not working dedicated cab came up for $50 i drove 5+ hours round trip to get it. turns out that cab is swollen from moisture but not terribly, and just needed a power supply and a good cleaning.

djgil came over for my last arcade party and totally schooled us on the game. damned kids and their lighting-fast button mashing!

Cab is over all pretty good. Some skuffs and the t-molding could do with being replaced. Nothing terrible tho. Monitor is bright, clear and looks great. It's a 25" Dynamo cab with the cut corner CP and a zig-zag sort of thing going on in the back. Got it for $200 delivered to my office. Now I can let all the guys at work repay my $200 one quarter at a time... :)

Thanks for the feedback mc300baud, I appreciate it.

so the cabinet shape is like this?

yeah, those are the z-back Dynamo cabs... they seem to often be or have been a Neo Geo so i wonder if they came dedicated that way originally.

$200 for one of those with MK delivered in nice shape i think is a pretty darn good deal.

I am looking at a MK2 in a dedicated cabinet in 7 out of 10 condition, wondering what you guys would pay for it? I think the seller is firm at around $300... Seems right in line with the market nowdays.. but not necessarily a bargain.

What do you guys think?

That's a good price. I would buy it and I have never paid over $200 for a complete working cab.

Seller became a total pain in the butt so no MK2 cab for me!! Oh well, there's plenty of them out there... And i really have my heart set on an original MK3 or 4 Cabinet in mint condition anyways...

:( MK2 is the best imo. I don't like MK4. The whole 3D thing makes it seem more dated than MK to me. MK3 is a good game though.

MK2 > MK3 (and especially MK4) ;)

stick to your guns, young man.....go after an MK2!!!! :)

+100000

MK2 much better of the four MK's. But if you are wanting a MK3 get UMK3 instead.

Those Z-back dynamo's are pretty sharp, but heavy as hell and it sucks if you drop something in the very bottom.

Well I found a MK1 original cab with Ultimate MK3 board (revision 1)/marquee in decent shape, but kind of beat up and missing coin door parts, and the back, as well as needing some TLC in other places for $350.. gonna pass on that one I think. I am partial to how the MK2 and MK4 cabs look over the 1 and 3's, I just like the graphics better... One of the main reasons I want a dedicated MK4 is for the ease of being able to plug all of the MK boards right in with no modifications.. and since they are the newest cabs and the game didn't have the popularity of the older ones, they are usually in much better condition. Of course a great condition cab of any generation would be nice if it's dead mint, however!!

I also have a Z-cab with MK4 installed, and it's in great shape... the Z-cabs are pretty nice as far as cabs go IMO, its so easy to slide the panel out and access the PCB to change, and they are build pretty tough. Mine is clean and I have other plans for it once I find my dedicated MK cab. For the price I picked it up at, I'm very happy with it!

Now ultimately I'd like to have a switchable PCB cabinet with all the MK games in it, but I'm a long ways from doing that myself at this point... I'm still pretty new to the Jamma/video game thing.. but there is an outstanding sample on this guys website.. WOW:

Don't walk away because you don't like the price on the windshield. Point out the defects tell him/her how much it would cost to fix and offer $200 or something. What do you have to lose?

I used the circuit he links on his site for my 2 in 1. My Dedicated MK3 switches MK2 and 3.

Here's what I did....

I also have a MINT MK2 for sale if you are interested. I was trying to sell it as a Multi-MK with a computer inside running Mame, but I am going to convert it back to Jamma and just run MK2. Let me know...

Wow, sweet MKII Zenomorp!! I am very interested in your cab, but I'm afraid that shipping it to Florida would be too expensive. Are you making a trip here/taking a vacation to Florida anytime soon!! :) Heck, if it could be set up to run MKII and UMK3 with a switch, that would be golden also!
