Was gonna just plunk down $2400 for one and have it shipped over. Don't really see them any cheaper than that local anyways, and they're usually in Dallas when they do come up (a drive I'd rather not make).

Way too much? Or am I not going to do much better without trolling for a fix'er'upper for the next few years?

Do you have any pictures of the conversion process that you can post up? How is it going?

Specifically I'm looking at this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DATA-EAST-S...AR-GREAT-SHAPE?item=220848875379&cmd=ViewItem

According to seller it would be a little south of $2700 shipped.

Forgot about that bostonpinball eBay trends site for pins. On that site I'm seeing about $2050 as an average from the past year, but more like $2800 for YTD. That includes eBay inflation I suppose, but I still haven't personally seen one less than $2200-2400 in quite a while.

I'm tempted to pull the trigger... looks like a pretty nice example... I am hesitant to buy a game I haven't seen in person. What to do? Hm...

Wait it out! I would never buy a game that I could not put my hands on, unless it was from someone I trusted...If you are paitent, one will pop up locally eventually.

True, but for how much? $2400 is almost always the price on this machine around these parts. Houston and TX in general SUCK for pin prices. And when deals pop up I typically miss them (doesn't help that there are a lot of large 'retailers' here with deep pockets).

Maybe a better line of questions: Has anyone seen one that wasn't beat to shit at the Dallas auctions in the last year? Or in that same time frame seen one FS on Craigs in Dallas, Houston, Austin, or SA in comparable condition for any less?

I'm leaning towards not getting it now, but I just have to wonder if I'm really gonna do much better if I wait. Especially the way the economy and pin prices have been lately.

And I don't keep up with Hollywood news, but aren't they remaking the Star Wars epsiodes 4-6 sometime in the future?

Why don't you just wait and see if somebody is going to we selling one at he Houston arcade expo this year. The expo just a short time away. Even if you had to pay the same at least you could try before you buy.

That is a pretty good suggestion actually. Although I have no idea what to expect price-wise having never been to the Expo before.

Just wait it out and pay a few more grand and get the stern one. That is what I plan on doing. I love the data east star wars pin but sadly there isn't much to it other then it looks and sounds amazing. As far as the pin goes it is pretty boring. As much as I want it I am going to be moving on because there are a lot better pins you can get for that price range.

Is that a legitimate thing, the Stern SW pin? Are there any pics yet (will Google in a sec, just posting off-the-cuff)?

Like you say though it would be at least a few more thou for that when it comes out. I have heard a lot of bad things about the DE pins from back then, thought maybe SW was an exception since I haven't heard much bad about tha one specifically. Then again I hear plenty of bad things about the new Stern pins as well...

If the Stern SW uses garbage digitized pics instead of animation and doesn't have cool toys on the pf that would suck though. Same if it has nothing but a glob of pf inserts centerfield like the upcoming TF pin.

Having owned a DE SW, here's my $0.02. It is a cool game from a theme, artwork, and overall package standpoint. It is nice to have in a collection, guests like it, and it is pretty neat. From a rules and gameplay perspective, it is kind of shallow. So if you want it from a fan/theme perspective, great. Just realize that if you like games that are deep and challenging, this probably isn't it.

As for hearing bad things about DE and Stern, it is basically a Ford vs. Chevy debate. Everyone has their likes and dislikes and good/bad points can be made for and against DE and Stern.

Stern SW? If it is happening, we won't know for sure for a while. Right now the rumor is that Stern's next pin after Transformers is AC/DC and even that isn't known for sure. So the rumors of SW are even farther off.

Back to DE SW. They seem to be selling for $1800-2200. They also aren't exactly rare as they made a ton of them. And if you really want one, it isn't a hard machine to sell. So if you don't like it and Stern comes out with a SW pin, you probably won't have a hard time getting rid of it. I guess I'd continue to keep my eyes open and look for one in the $2000 range. If you want to pick one up for $2700 shipped, just be ready to take a few hundred dollar loss if you decide to sell it in a year or so.

I kind of miss mine. If I had more room, I'd have kept it. But it didn't get enough play by myself or my kids to justify keeping it around.

I'd bank on AC/DC and here's why. There is a person whom shall remain nameless that has a friend that works for Stern. This friend at Stern leaks the info to my aquaintence and he has said next pin is confirmed AC/DC.
Quite honestly this person has never been wrong. Since I've known him, he has been correct on the release of IM, TRS, TRON, XFMRS so I would have to strongly believe he's correct on AC/DC.

It is "rumored" that Stern will be putting out 4 titles this year. Last one due out around Christmas. We're at #3 so far.

I don't really doubt that AC/DC will be next. It has been discussed enough and "confirmed" by enough people that I also think it will be happening.

I also don't really doubt the Stern SW rumors. I guess my point was to get DE SW if he really wants it as it is a decent machine and he probably won't have trouble selling it later on. DE SW is a known commodity, Stern SW isn't.

I think I may get it (or another one local) after all, but only if its still around as a relist when I get back and I can make room in my apt. It seems to be in extremely nice condition and trying to save $200-300 is really not something I'm too concerned with right now (I've made enough off the down time alone - sitting around on my ass - on this one job to pay for it nd thensome... and, yes, I consider myself extremely fortunate, thanks). And I fear the new Stern pin will just be based on whatever crap Star Wars series they're pushing at the time whereas an OT themed one is the only one I'd have interest in.

Will see what happens, might additionally hold off until I get this FunHouse resto off my plate. Once finished that one could hold my interest for quite a while anyways.

The issue with DE SW is like someone else said: Not a lot of depth.

Other than the depth issue it's a great game just like many other DE and Sega games that get no love.

I dunno... it's not like I'm some pinball wizard anyways... and I got the FunHouse so I'd have at least one deep title... and am still on the lookout for a Black Hole or Haunted House.

I'm surprised nobody brought up that I have a South Park pin. That one is as shallow as they come, but I still enjoy it thoroughly. NO way Star Wars has more basc gameplay than that is there?? :/

That is one fear though for sure, that if I get Star Wars I will end up dropping South Park pretty quick so as not to have two pins that are "all theme, no substance".

I haven't watched any youtube vids or played SP so I cannot say to be honest. I think for the over all package DE SW is WAY better than SP, but again I cannot fairly judge.

It has to be I'd imagine. SW has metal ramps, two large animated toys, better art package, better table arrangement, etc. Probably better goals, ruleset, gameplay as well.

I dunno, only thing I don't like about SP personally is that the modes don't stack. You hit Kenny 3x you get Kill Kenny mode, no stacking with other shots, no simultaneous multiball (you're just in the mode until you meet the goal or time runs out, then you can do something else). DMD 'carpet munching' mini game is also lame and just wears out the leaf switches. It helps that I'm a huge fan, and the one I bought is restored to frickin pristine condition with a tastefully done LED arrangement. :D

If you haven't watch the youtube vids of SW. I don't think it really has any modes, but I could be wrong.

No? I dunno, when I say 'mode' I'm thinking "hit 3 drop targets, then shoot the Death Star within 60 seconds." No shit like that?

Can't Youtube it right now though, internet access here is pathetic.
