There's a Williams congo on CL nearby.

What are these worth? I know little about pinball but am not opposed to owning one.

Need an opinion to see if its worth pursuing. the ad makes me think he's a moron

("these machines sell for upward of $10K. lolololol)

I am not an expert, but it seems like they go anywhere from $2500-3500 depending on condition lately. It is a fantastic pin with a lot going on.

$2500 would be top-end on this one. $10k? Pffft. Even if it came directly from the lost city of Zinj, it wouldn't be worth more than $2800.

I always find it amazing that CL posters will say "these sell for upwards of $X, I'm selling mine for $x-90%"

If they sell for $X....Why wouldnt THEY sell THEIRS for $X?

Crazy.

Congo is great. But yeah, $2500 max. MAX.

Congo is one of the greatest pins ever. I've had mine for almost 2 years and still love the hell out of it. In that time, I've seen 6-7 other pins come and go, but Congo will never leave. I'd say 2500 is midrange these days, max is approaching $3500+. Hell, I saw a nice one sell for 5K just a few months ago.

I've seen two sell for $4-5K range, and both were high end restores with clearcoated playfields and more.

If it's complete and under $2K you've done well. The jump ramp is frequently broken or missing, and the top of the volcano is frequently cracked due to the VUK weld breaking. You can buy new ramps, but not the volcano ramp/plastic.

Congo was my first DMD. Awesome layout, great music. If it's clean and all inserts, plastics and ramps are undamaged, $2500 is not at all unreasonable.
