I'm trying to figure out a price to offer for a Dynamo HS-5 cab with 25" monitor, but no game. The nice condition is making it harder for me to judge on a price. The cabinet looks completely stock from the factory - no sideart, generic dynamo red/black cpo, blank black bezel.

In my limited experience, I've never seen an unrestored cab in this good of condition before so I'd say it is close to near mint. The only work it would need is probably a cap kit (picture is starting to shrink).

So what is a fair price? I'm not expecting to get a steal, but I don't want to over pay.

$100-150 if it needs a cap kit. That's pretty much the monitor price. Maybe $200-250 if it is as clean/nice as you say and the only thing it really needs is a board installed.

I've had a few Dynamo HS-5 for free. They are generic cabs and all over the place.

I seem to have a hard time finding them in my area - at least ones that aren't beat up and missing the monitor, etc. Plus stuff seems to generally be higher priced around here.

I don't think I could get the seller down lower than $400.

I have an HS-9 and wouldn't trade it away easily. They are great for a JAMMA cab as it is super easy to swap out boards and rotate the monitor from the front. I paid $150 for mine and it isn't in mint condition. Everybody is different, but I think they are great cabs and worth at least $150-200 for one in good shape and if the monitor is in good shape.

Maybe I'm just losing patience waiting for something at a fair price to show up...

It is the condition that even has me contemplating this. All my arcade purchases are generally dogs that I have to put a fair amount of work into. Cosmetically this one wouldn't need anything other than whatever marquee, sideart, etc. I put on it.

Well if it is mint and you think the monitor can be fixed with a cap kit, then it might be worth it to you. I am a big fan of the cabinets for their versatility. The only thing I would change on mine would be to have better access to the back of the cabinet when needed and for the CP angle to not be as steep.

$100 tops.

Lets say you paid $400 for it, and then you would still have to dump another $200 putting a decent kit into it and capping the monitor.

Then you are in $600 and would have a hard time getting $300 for it if you tried to sell it.

If it seems like it would be a cab you will keep in your collection, and given that such a nice condition cab is hard-to-find in your area, maybe you should buy it. Most people consider the resale costs, but sometimes you have to pull the trigger and just end your search for a nice keeper cab. But try to get the seller down to $300 if you can or see if you can get them to include something along with the cab. Maybe a working pcb or other parts.

Yes, this will be a long long term keeper for me so it doesn't bother me to get it and then have to let it sit for a couple months or whatever until I can save up some more $$ to put a game in it. I talked the seller down to that ballpark price I mentioned b/c he is trying to sell it for quite a bit more with the game that is currently in it.

This will be my last cabinet/arcade purchase for a decade. Seriously. I have one cabinet that I would trade for something I'd like more but other than that my lineup is set until I can move and have more space. I plan to use it as my fighter/jamma cabinet and will probably go with some version of Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, etc.

It would depend on the button configuration and the CONDITION OF THE MONITOR as well as the brand. So inspect it to see if it has a Wells Gardner K7000. If the monitor is bright during play in the daylight, and the control panel is not hacked to pieces, I would venture to say its worth 500 dollars. You can find plenty of HS-5 cabs. Very seldom do you find one that it is ready to use or put on location or convert to your favorite Jamma game. Most have the common 2 pl. 6 button SF2 configuration. The universal configuration is also fairly common. But if you have a 1pl 2 or 3 button ambidextrous or 2pl 2 or 3 button configuration. Its a pretty rare animal. Others can disagree. I have five. 2 are on location, and a couple more could be put into service. 1 is a SF2 configuration with a beautiful montor, the other is a 2 pl 2 button with a monitor that's ready to die. Guess which one people want to play. Just saying.

Agree with this post right here. An HS-5 in really nice condition with a great monitor and a ONE PLAYER two or three button ambidextrous setup I would pay a solid amount for.

It is not the 1 player/2-3 button control panel. It has a 2 player/2 button setup.

I was there to look at an HS-1 cab that turned out to be in worse condition than I wanted to get into when I noticed this super nice HS-5. The asking price seemed way off at the time so I didn't bother to have the seller move it to get access to the monitor.

Still debating on this, but I'm not super worried about it being sold in the meantime.
