Hi everyone,

A friend of mine wants to get her kids a multi for xmas. I found this local CL ad. I think I've spoken to this guy a few years back and he seemed decent. I believe he's also a KLOVer (if it's the same Asian guy). I've been out of the seen for a while (this is my 1st login since 12/2009), and think that his price is a ~$300-400 too high.

Your thoughts?

Well yeah $400 too high for US, but not to the general public. People will pay that price for quality ones like that.

A quality multigame with all new components can easily cost $1000 just for the parts. Or, you can cut every corner there is and build ones for around $500, so you really have to ask some questions and look inside the game to see which it is.

Some things I would look for:
- What kind of joystick is it? Does it feel right? Can you switch from 4 to 8 way?
- What type of monitor does it have? Is it new? Has it been installed correctly?
- Is all the art silk screened, or is it inkjet that may fade in a few years?
- What type of wiring harness is it, the cheap $10 version or the Bob Roberts $22 kind?
- Is the coin door refurbished? Does it have lights? Working mechs?
- Are there leg levelers on the bottom or is it sitting on wood?
- Is there a quality power supply, and is there a fuse or circuit breaker?
- Is the wiring well managed, or does it look like a rat's nest?
- Is there a test / service button for changing the game settings?
- Is the PCB an "A" quality board or a "B" board?
- Is there a new on / off switch that is easy ti get to?
- Are there handles on the back of the new games to make it easier to move?
- Does the guy offer a warranty to back up his work?

Just my 2 cents.

Wow

Thanks for all the quick responses. (And feel free to add more if you have something to say.)

I appreciate the help!

Cheers

sounds like a sales pitch :)

and for the record pacray's games are as nice as I've seen.

Here is a good buddy of mine whom does very nice work. Here is a 190 he has right now.

He is working on a Ms. Pac Man right now also. He charges about 900 for the pac man and galaga's. He does replace everything, new flat panel monitor, power supply, etc.....So the prices you are seeing are not really out of line. It's a lot of time to do one right.

I was checking out a Centipede my buddy Randy is doing right now. With all the new guts in and old guts removed it was amazing how light the cab was.

B+ condition Scramble at bro rate price from XXI21: $100
60 in 1 board at today's prices: $100
JAMMA to Konami adapter: $40

Can you do it "on the cheap?" Of course. For quality workmanship with new components and refurbished/new cabinet retail? Those prices seem pretty fair.
