I have a few more machines I'm looking out for and would like some feedback on prices. I know there is always the chance that I could luck out and find one for $50-$100 on CL, but I'm gonna assume that either I'll miss out on it or most likely when I'm ready to get one it will be from another collector. I'm not in a big rush, just hoping to find one or two of these sometime in the near future and want to be prepared when the time comes to pony up for one of these.

The prices I have estimated are based on same day turn around pick up (no shipping). I am fortunate enough to live in California (near Sacramento) where there are lots of collectors and machines to be found :). I have seen prices listed considerably higher on some of these, but I'm not that desperate/rich do get one at those prices....

Based on eXidy's price guide:

720 ($600-$900)
DOT ($1000-$2000)
EDOT ($1500-$3500)
Food Fight ($600-$1200)
Mad Planets ($500-$800)
Root Beer Tapper ($400-$550)
Satan's Hallow ($300-$550)
Tapper regular version ($600-$1000)
Wacko ($350-$550)
Warlords cocktail ($800-$2,000+)
Zoo Keeper ($600-$1,400)

My estimate for California area (all working/complete ranging from a little beat up to really clean/rebuilt):

720 ($600-$800)
DOT ($800-$1,200)
EDOT ($2,000-$2,500)
Food Fight ($600-$800)
Mad Planets ($500-$600)
Root Beer Tapper ($400-$550)
Satan's Hallow ($400-$500)
Tapper ($600-$800)
Wacko ($350-$450)
Warlords cocktail ($1,200-$2,000)
Zoo Keeper ($800-$1,000)

Am I way off on any of these?

What kind of prices did you get recently for any of these?

Thanks for the input!

I think those are all reasonable price ranges.

Of course like any good cheap KLOV'r I've seen them all for a lot less.

I own these 4 games and I paid these prices for them.. So I think these prices are fair....

Satan's Hallow ($300-$550) $50
Tapper regular version ($600-$1000) $600
Wacko ($350-$550) $250
Zoo Keeper ($600-$1,400) $1000

The list is a little outdated IMO.

There is a line of people for Mad Planets at $1000 that much I know..

Though I have a cool package deal only price:

Food Fight, Zoo Keeper, EDOT (cut), I, Robot and Wacko for $5800 = )

......Thanks for the input so far guys!

@ KidVidiot:
I don't disagree, my prices are more for the 'would love to get one' price as opposed to the 'must have now' price....

@ Robotron Jon:
Yes, I would love to find a CL deal for cheaper - or luck out on a great deal from a fellow KLOVer ;)

@caddysrule:
First off, I'm very jealous of you :) I'm guessing you got the Satan's Hallow off CL at that price (HELL of a deal, BTW)? Are the other prices you recently purchased from other collectors?

@DreamTR:
I don't disagree that your prices can be had. It may be more of a regional/availability thing. Like I said, I'm fortunate (and thankful) that my location has more offerings and I'm willing to wait...I have had a few great deals and missed out on a few others:

Last year I missed out on a $50 Tapper (no chance against a few other KLOV predators out there ;) ), a nice Mad Planets sold here on KLOV for $500 (I think I was #2 to respond) and an EDOT in my price range. I can't remember exactly how long ago 1-2 years I hesitated on a Cut EDOT that was a pile of parts but was assured all working for $500....still kicking myself for missing that one.

Keep 'em coming, love to hear back about these goodies I've been drooling about....

What did you ever do with the Star Wars Cockpit?

Hello PrarieDillo,

Well, thankfully that one is checked off my want to find grail list :). It's sitting happily between my Asteroids Deluxe and SW ROTJ....I haven't updated my VAPS in a while, I suppose I should.

I saw your Price checking resource list thread pop up a few minutes before you responding here. This was my first time doing a price check post here, sorry if that may have irritated you. I know about eXidy's price guide which I did mention and BTW is a great resource and I want to thank eXidy (Jon I think?) for creating it. I just was looking to get maybe more regional/current updates if any. I suppose maybe I should have listed under WTB/Trade/Price check? If the mods want to move/remove my post that's okay with me.....

what you posted was very different from a lazy uninformed "please help me cause I don't want to research" post.

Ouch...sorry, like I said my first time making a post like this. I guess its hard to tell what tone someone may be making in writing, but I guess I must have done something wrong here....

...from now on I'll try and just have these type of discussions in private.

Not sure how to remove my post (never done that before, either). How do I go about this?

Prairie, please send me a PM if you have any more to discuss on this topic...I'm a good guy, I promise :)

Prices will be all over the place of course. I don't consider myself a greedy seller, but I'd have to get more than $800 for my 720. Very clean original cabinet, original vinyl t-molding, and base molding, in near perfect shape, original backdoor, manual package, all artwork replaced with the Phoenixarcade type stuff. I rebuild the joystick with the RAM parts and replaced the front panel with plywood and Formica laminate. I'd have to get > $1000 for it, based on what I've poured into it.

I have a HUO Rootbeer Tapper I'd sell, but price is a bit higher than your range.

600-900 for a 720 used or refurbished...hmm i paid 400 for my machine, 200 for shippping thats 600 hundred for a machine that needed lots of tlc. just for the parts im in it for around 500 dollars. when im done with this project i would not let this thing go for less than 1800 bucks. i know thats way over priced but thats what i feel i have in it.

I've bought 2 unrestored 720s in the past 5 years, both for around $400. And one just sold for $400 here on Craigslist. I'd say that's about the going price unless it has new repro art and a full joystick rebuild. After replacing most of the parts in the joystick, the monitor and part of the wiring in mine (thanks Okert!), I just passed on trading it for a Disks of Tron. Pricewise it was probably a great trade for me, but 720 is more fun to play and I'm not sure I could pick up the joystick parts now that he who should not be named folded his repro parts biz.

$600 seems more like a reasonable price for a Zoo Keeper.

I don't know why people think they're so rare. Several different arcades I went to as a kid had it.

The only ones that are "rare" are the early models that have the original romset that gave you a free credit when you turned on the machine.

rarity is only one part of the equation. people are obviously paying more for it than just that factor.

but yeah, please point me to the $600 Zookeepers...I'll take 3

@joeycuda:
Yes, I think there will always be higher values based on how much work/$ a potential seller put into it and respect that. One of my half dozen or so unfinished projects, Smash TV I'm sure I'll probably have more in it than I could sell it for when I'm done - but not planning on selling it anyway so I'm good with that...

BTW - sorry to all for creating another 'price check' thread. I suppose I should have called it, "I wanna talk about grails that I want to buy/trade for eventually"...I like reading the feedback on what values others have and what they had to invest to get them in the condition they like.

@cnlmoore:
Nice! I would imagine a real clean, working and HUO would up the $$ for sure. I'm curious on you/others would value, but too far away for me anyway so I'm not tempted anyway - damn.....

@chad1:
$400 for a 720 sounds like a pretty decent deal to me. Was it in working/complete condition? Can't really factor shipping for myself (not looking to do that), but I can see location being an issue and no choice but to ship - especially if you may have been looking for a long time. I'm sure just about any full restore project would wind up costing $1,000-$2,000+ (and tons of labor hours) depending on the machine and how much originally purchased for.

@dan10things:
I would love to find one for $400...know anyone in Nor Cal at that price? :)

@Mimatt:
$600 would be sweet, but I honestly don't see that happening for me anytime in the near future....I think my best bet will be just to get a Taito Cab, put the multi-Taito board in it and call it good. I could probably build that up over time and get in the $400-$600 range looking decent.

@KidVidiot:
I would probably buy 2 @ $600 then resell one for enough to chop it down close to free for the one I'd keep....good luck to both of us on that one, huh?

Cheers,

-GackAttack

It's a good game, no doubt about it. But with a few exceptions, I don't think most games from the golden age are honestly worth $1000 unless they were NIB, ultra rare or prototypes.

I wouldn't consider a game like Zoo Keeper to be on the same level as say Tron or Star Wars which are not at all rare, but still manage to fetch a hefty price tag.

But to each his own. However, I'd never pay $1000 for a Zoo Keeper.
