I have a guy wanting to trade me a Marvel vs Capcom. I don't normally like fighting games and know nothing about this game. I was told it was good cosmetically and everything works. What kind of value does it carry or is it good for conversion? I hate a generic price check thread but I really am clueless about the value of this one. The trade is going to put it in the $150 to $200 range on my end.

That's about right. Although the board set is worth about $50-100, it's really about the cabinet that it's mounted in. Is it a 19" or 25" monitor? What kind of cab is it? Z-back? Dynamo? Some other cab conversion? How does the CP look? Artwork?

I've seen some really nice looking CPS-2 conversions, and some really crappy ones.

Crappy conversion: $100
AWESOME cab: upwards of $500

If you get it make sure you check to see if there is any indication as to when the battery was replaced in the game - the game will commit suicide if the battery dies. If you can't tell when it was replaced, put in a new one. Someone else might chime in about how long the batteries last but I don't think it's more than a 3-4 years.

I don't think there's any standard time as to how long those lithium batteries are supposed to last.

Best course of action is to replace them if you can't get a definitive answer from the seller as to when they've been replaced last. Better to be safe than sorry.

$16 gets you piece of mind. Everything you need here to replace the battery, and you get a security torx bit to boot:

A working A/B board set alone w/the CPS2 kick harness is worth $100 at least...
Look at what art comes with it... monitor size, type and condition... Cab condition. Price out all three and determine what it's worth to you. $200-500 is fair depending on what's there and condtion.

Better yet, have the chips phoenixed.

That's a bit of a heavy handed approach. It's not needed until the board suicides, IF it ever does.

I'd say if the board's working OK, then replace the battery and just make sure you test it periodically to make sure it's holding the proper charge.

No use fixing things that aren't broken.

Yes, boards can be fixed after they suicide....... As long as the battery doesn't leak all over the pcb.

I don't know if I would phoenix a board. But if I had an expensive board, I would strongly recommend changing the battery asap. And maybe even externalizing it.

I sold one not long ago to a friend. Cab was in pretty nice shape (generic Dynamo cut-corner) - the red/gray version. Rebuilt 25" K7000. Phoenixed board. Everything working perfectly. He was happy to have it for $320. I probably could have gotten more for it on CL, but I usually price lower to friends if they're interested and I make a little for my trouble. I could easily have parted it out for that much had I wished, but I didn't and he loved the game, so win-win. Went to his house last weekend for a get-together and it was getting decent attention...
