Price Check - Japanese Space Invaders Part II Cocktail & Dedicated R-Type

Hello!

I have the option of purchasing a Japanese Space Invaders Part II Cocktail (with Japanese labels and CPO) in very good condition for $350.

Also on my radar is a dedicated R-Type (black Nintendo cab) with a perfect monitor. The cab is fairly beat up as is the control panel, but the Marquee is nice and the internals are perfect. (I'd really like a Nintendo VS at some point, so I was thinking about selling the PCB and then restoring the cab, but I really want a Red Tent, and I'm not sure how much it would cost for the conversion.) $180.

Yea or Nay?

Thanks so much!

I'd buy that R-Type for $180 and leave it as it/restore it, but I used to love R-Type.

Too bad I don't have the room, as I live in Arizona as well.

If it's a real space invaders part II and not space invaders deluxe which reads space invaders part II on the title screen then it's worth more than the asking price to the right buyer. BTW space invaders part II will have head to head game play. Assuming it is space invaders part II I would buy it in a second for $350.

Actually, you're referring to Midway's Space Invaders II. http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9668
It's easy to mix up the names. Midway was responsible for Space Invaders II, which is not part of the Taito Space Invaders series and was only released in the Midway cocktail style. Taito released Space Invaders Part II as a direct sequel to the series. Then, Taito made some REALLY brilliant deviations on the formula like Lunar Rescue and Balloon Bomber.

In my opinion, Lunar Rescue and Balloon Bomber have much more depth in the gameplay compared to the original Space Invaders formula. More modern Space Invaders sequels have broken that trend, however.

Yeah, it is Space Invaders Part II and not Space Invaders II.

FuturePrimitive: do cocktails command more money in Japan than in the US?

Thank you guys so much for all the help! I'm still making my mind up, but this has really helped my decision process.

The Japanese can be some of the most devoted enthusiasts, to the point of fanaticism sometimes. So, a good cocktail to the right hobbyist would be worth more. After all, they have the Taito Station in Akihabara.

The UK and Europe had better means of sales and distribution for Taito games compared to the US. I've also heard of Taito games in Australia. Refer to this example: http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Original-Space-Invaders-Arcade-Machines?ugid=10000000001239211

Hope that helps a bit!
