What's a decent price for a project to a working machine ? I spoke with a guy that has several of them. The projects need board replacement and shopped for $450-550, one just needs to be shopped at $850 and one restored with ground mods done for $1,400. Any thoughts on which one would be the best way to go ?

Well ground mods are basically free it just requires you to run some wires. If the boards don't work you can buy new or try to fix them. I bought a CPU, Driver Board, Power Supply, 4x Pop bumper driver boards. It cost like $400 for those.

Keep in mind i am a pin noob and went spend crazy on my first pin.

no the new boards are great, i am still tracking down a couple of issues though. I will hopefully have it done soon. I don't know if i am going to keep it or sell/trade it yet though

With how many new parts/boards are out now, I would be concerned more with the condition of the playfield than with the actual working condition. You figure for $450, you'll put well under $950 into it with new boards and mods done.
They probably all even out in the end, or at least within a couple hundred, so go for condition.
