Going to see a Centipede tomorrow and wondering what people think a fair value is.

I don't have much info other than it's in a public storage place, getting good info from the seller has been a problem as he say's it's in "great" shape but my spidey senses are tingling...

It's 40 mins away and I can afford the gas to go even if it's a pile of junk, and it's a Saturday so I'm available...so even I can't talk myself out of checking this one out...but I did find him on Craigslist so I'm expecting it to be a challenge....

Socal is the area of origin for this unit so take that into account...

I've seen centipedes all over the board for sale. I've seen them as low as $300 for not so pretty to $700 fully restored. I'd say these days you can have a nice one for $500. For that price it better work and have the full side art ($200 for the replacement art if not).

If it's a nice one, maybe $300-$400. If it looks like it was dragged to the storage facility,no more than a benjamin. But what do I know? Plus I'm not a big fan of trackball games anyway.I still wouldn't go out of that price range unless it was like damn near brand new.

$200-$400 is a good range. They sit on eBay at $500 plus...even really nice ones. Pede's are common enough that if you don't feel like you're getting a good deal, just walk away. Another one will pop up shortly.

Assume its not working so 200ish if its in average shape, 300 if it's really clean, you shouldnt have to spend more than 150 tops to get it working and thats if it needed a monitor rebuild and a board. If it needs new side art, new CP overlay, and the cabinet has any damage at all requiring bondo then I would say 150 tops. There are a LOT of Centipedes so dont spend too much on a project. Also, how long has it been on CL ? days ? weeks ? if it hasnt been snatched up fast then don't offer as much. He is probably asking too much and tired of showing it to people and wants it gone.
just my .02

Wasnt there a thread asking this same question just last week or so? Does anyone ever try price guides or completed items on eBay?

Or the search function? By the way, is it okay to run games in a cold garage and how do I get in contact with Bob Roberts?

:D

Thanks everyone for all of the useful input, I got the machine for $125, the owner wasn't able to get it to power up, looks like the plug itself is bad or the cord for that matter as it had plenty of electrical tape on it...
I'll post up pics of it as soon as I get a free minute... :)

Who is Bob Roberts ? We play my games in a unheated garage drinking frozen beer they work fine. What is that all about?
Later, Rob

Pics of it:

Replaced the power plug end, Checked molex connect to power supply, checked all the interlock switches and it powered right up, not bad for a buck and a quarter... :)

Monitor has burn but it's not terribly distracting, CPO is a little rough but not terrible, cab has no water damage or structural damage, all in all I'm pretty happy with it.

Nice score!! The price estimates here are low (big surprise). Centipede is still easily a $500 game in decent condition. Very nice restored ones can fetch $1000+. It's a top 5 requested game by Joe Homeowner, especially women. When I was looking for one, I couldn't find one that I'd consider "decent" within a several-hour drive for anywhere near $500, and I watched ebay for months. Finally a decent one popped up locally at $400, so I jumped. The sideart is complete and overall very nice, but I will still probably install new sideart due to the yellowing of the original.

Thanks, and a +1 on the wife's approval, about the only game she likes to play.
I think if I do the side art and the CPO maybe a little touch up on the black cab parts this body would look fantastic, now how much would a monitor replacement run?

So its what 60 miles round trip?

What do you drive a hummer?

You can afford the <$10 in gas... Am I missing something here? What does gas cost out in Cali? I thought you all drove hybrids out there anyway ;)

- Nice find IMO - $125 for a centipede - hell if the trackball works you practically covered your expenses...

Awesome find!! I recently scored a UMK3 in a converted MK2 cab for $200 because it wouldn't fire up, and upon replacing a fuse it worked fine.. :)

LOL!!!

I was really trying to talk myself out ofgoing, gas was $3.13 in Palm Springs, made sure I filled up on the $2.95 stuff here... ;)
