Hi all -

(originally posted elsewhere, before I was told this sub exited. I never noticed it!)

Went and looked at a Budweisier Tapper today at a guys house. It was a "regular" (not the color side/front art Tapper).

Game worked fine. Monitor would need to be re-capped. Cab was nice, not mint. It had a 2" x 0.5" gouge / missing art on the front. Also would need new art on one side (so realistically both sides so it matched), and a new CPO.

I asked where it was from. Owner said he used to own an arcade shop. Probably should have known to walk at that point. He was a nice enough guy, but arcade shop owners (and perhaps ex-arcade-shop-owners) generally seem to feel games are worth much more than us collectors.

After offering what I felt was a very fair price ($1300, with very little room to haggle) he said he wouldn't take a dollar less than $1850.

He's had it up for sale for four months...

Amusingly of course, Tapper is the *one* game used in the "condition pricing" examples of the Exidy price guide.

What do you guys think? Is the fair price closer to $1300 or $1850?

If it's the one I'm thinking the guy's been trying to sell it for a while at 2K. Besides the small piece missing on the top front the game looks fine in the pics from what I saw. Since this one is in Fl. and there's not many here to begin with you won't have to pay for shipping as I did which boosts up the price. Either that or hold out for a nicer one and ship one in I guess.

Yep Mike it's the same one . . . from the pics it just looks like the front is damaged, but when going to look at it in person I realized the CPO is in bad shape and the art on one side was a bit messy.

I didn't mention it to the "non floridians" but it also looks like he's been keeping it in his garage for a while; our humidity always concerns me in these situations.

Sounds like $1850 is high but not insane... thanks everyone for the feedback!

I paid $1500 plus $200 for shipping when it arrived it had no sound, the seller was full of crap because it had z 80 chips where the custom chips belonged.Cabinet is perfect and after I drop $300 in brass plating I will be into it 2k but they are worth it to me. I would fan out $1500 and see if he still resists, sometimes seeing the cash helps persuade them.

$200 for shipping? that's cheap, who has that price?

My Tapper cost me $900, I had to drive 346 miles to pick it up and when I got it home I spent $132.00 from This Old Game for a CPO and Kick panel overlay, $10 for Joystick overlays and $60 to have the cup holders Brass Plated. Other than that it was just a bunch of clean up. CRT has a lot of burn and needs to be replace when I can find one worthy of Tapper. I am into mine right in the $1300 range if I add in gas money so my good deal has now turned into an average deal. But my game is awesome and you cant beat that!

If he "wont take a dime less than 1850" then why even ask what the value is? That's his bottom dollar price, that's what it's worth to him.. and not unreasonable for that game.

Sucks... such a fun game. Way too expensive to even be on my list.
