Price check: Bally Lost World

It's a great beginner pin. I overpaid for mine but at the time, it was worth it. 7 years later and I don't play it that much but my kids and my guests love it. If it hasn't been upgraded or worked on, expect at the very least to replace burnt connectors, reflow cold solder joints on the header pins and to rebuild the power supply board. Possibly the solenoid driver as well. I'd say it's worth $150 beat and non-working, $250 if beat but working, $4-500 in nice shape, $600 if VERY nice, especially if the internals have been upgraded/ worked on. I paid $850 for mine.

Phet is right on here. I've played his table. It was fun. Your basic starter pin. No ramps or multiball, so scores stay low. I got 225K on it and I thought I was a rockstar :)

As with most pins, the playfield and backglass condition are key here. Everything else is easily handled.

I find it really boring to be honest. I have one in the basement, and it rarely gets played. It also rarely boots up, so that could be another reason why, LOL.

Typical bally layout. Hase some neat features and really good art, but the game play leaves me "meh".

As for price, I usually see them from $400 - $900 depending on condition.

Yep, I used to feel the same way, til I reflowed solder on the header pins, replaced the power board and replaced several bad connectors, installed new rubber, replaced bulbs, etc, etc. If you leave it like it is, you'll always hate it cuz you'll never know if it's gonna work or stay working this time. A little maintenance goes a long way. That being said, it can't compare to today's DMD's, but it was never meant to. I like it, but I also don't feel the need to play it every day like I used to.

Great backglass, decent playfield art - overall a nice looking, classic pin from the period.

Not much to do on it otherwise - there are other pins from the period that I think would hold your interest longer. I'm a fan of many of the older Bally pins from this period - this one just didn't hold my interest, and I didn't miss it after selling it.

All that said, if it's cheap enough, and you find it interesting, go for it.

Ok thanks for the input. I have a chance to pick one up for cheap but several factors are delaying me. The biggest being space right now. I've been trying to sell a couple things but this being California, nothing is moving. Which I suppose is why I could pick this up for so cheap anyway.

I told the lady that if it doesn't sell by Saturday I'll probably pick it (and her Centipede) up....but I'm really hoping she sells them! Plus it's a long drive which I really don't need right now. And it's raining. Gee, can I think of any more good reasons why I don't need these things?

And here's the CL ad if anyone else is interested. I would dearly love for someone else to jump in there ahead of me. And I've already confirmed that she will come down significantly from her asking price of $400 for both machines.

Please someone, save me from myself!

Don't stress man, it might kill ya ;)

$400 is a good price for both machines.

WTF? $200 EACH? Dude, GET ON THAT like white on rice.

See, but this is the same place where I've been trying to sell my nice working Phoenix for $250 and had exactly ZERO interest. And my game room is a mess with all the projects already. I'm really big on having the games usable....it's just not fun otherwise if I can't have people over with all the game carcasses lying about.

*sigh*

Why do I live in the barren wasteland again?

Out here a working Centipede is worth more than both of those two machines put together.

After checking out the CL ad...

Centipede seems decent - just need a control panel overlay, but looks nice otherwise.

The Lost World backglass (which is a focal point on that game) is ROUGH. Missing big chunks of paint near the credit/match area, and severely delaminated throughout the rest of the backglass. You may be able to seal what's left, but if those big missing chunks aren't intact, and laying on the inside, it's not going to look pretty regardless...

Cheap enough, but that Lost World is indeed a project given the flipper issues mentioned, and that backglass may not be easy to replace..

Thank you for pointing that out about the back glass. I have a hard time seeing that kinda detail in these little pics. Plus I'm less sure what to look for on pins. I know for sure she would take $300 for the pair because she said so. I think I could get her to go down to $200. But I'm not sure if I even want them for free.

The Centipede is certainly tempting. If it was a Millipede I'd want it more though.

I wish I was closer I would take that phoenix off your hands

I wish you were too. :) There's always NAVL.

As for the Lost World and Centipede....the weather is looking bad for the next several days so it looks like I won't be able to pick them up anyway. I just talked to her and she has someone else as a backup so I told her not to hold them for me. I never actually asked her to hold them but she said she has been. Nice lady. Someone here should go get them....just get there before Friday since that's when the other guy is due!

Money is really tight, otherwise I would give the LW a look. The thing is, man...the gameplay on LW comes off kinda boring. I don't mean from a "oh this isn't as cool as the newer games" standpoint, but even compared to the same era.

California is good to collectors right now...if you are one of the lucky ones with cash to burn.
