Well ignoring the post where someone aquired an Arcade lengends 2 for less than 500. What is a fair price.

I am negotiating with someone for one that I think I can get for 1300.00.

His has 250 games on it.

I don't know a great deal about the games. Honestly I like the cabinet and the idea of having a nice monitor and reliable machine. Not to mention I am running out of room but not the desire to play the old games.

I am looking at this as its about 6 bucks a game. Its packaged in a nice container with arcade controls and I don't have to mess around building a mame cabinet...let alone the legal issues.

So tell me why I should or shouldn't spend the money. What did you give for yours?

frame skipping. ugly design. playing 4 way games with an 8 way joystick sucks. anyways, i know i wouldnt pay more than $500-600 for one. some might go a few hundred higher... i think its just a shitty alternative to a mame cab that people are willing to pay more for simply because it is claimed the arcade legends cabs are legit and legal.

to start with, its not for sure those cabs are legal or not. ultracade made the arcade legends cabs, and supposedly didnt have the rights to the roms. the company CEO who has occasionally posted here was brought up on 35 felony charges last year all related to counterfeiting arcade games and including unlicensed games. he also tried stealing the name toaplan for his own company and tried copyrighting MAME and its logo for himself. one thing is for sure, nintendo and namco didnt license shit for arcade legends. after this story came out they stopped distributing all the games they were accused of not having licenses for. pretty shady, and i dont know how well their credibility stands as far as the rest of their stuff being legal. clearly, many of the games they have distributed in the past were not licensed.

"Ultracade is completely out of bounds in selling 'Pac-Man' or any other Namco titles for arcade use with their system. They have not licensed it from Namco or anyone else. Operators buying Namco titles from them should realize they are buying an unlicensed, illegal product and that Namco is taking appropriate action to protect its intellectual property from misuse / theft."

I got my Arcade Legends II Mint for under a grand!!

Expect continued hate toward this machine here... It's a compromise to the purists, but it does serve a purpose and for me gives my guests and me a great selection that I would never have due to space limitations.

You must be looking at the Arcade Legends 1 machine if it has 250 games- the AL2 machine only has 1 upgrade disk, and that's only 25 games.

From my experiences of looking around (I'm the guy that just bought the AL2 machine for under $500) most of the machines sell for around $800-1200 depending on which unit and how many games are loaded. The AL1 unit usually will sell for more because it has more games and a much bigger selection, even if it is not currently supported. AL1 cocktails will also add a little more than a standup, they are alot rarer and somewhat hard to find. A fully loaded cocktail version of the AL1 with every expansion pack installed just sold for $1600 on ebay a few weeks ago

I would have paid more if it had the 250 games you are talking about, the kits that were out there for AL1 were awesome- Dragons lair, donkey kong (nintendo), pacman, etc., would make my machine even better. Just make sure you get the setup disk when you buy the machine, if the hard drive fails and you don't have the restore disks and the expansion packs with keys, you are SOL. Like I said, the AL2 can't utilize those game packs.

And as far as the games go, this unit is awesome.. the front end is one of the best I've seen for a multi-game, and there is an amazing selection of games on this that make it worth while IMO... now is it a replacement for all original gameplay on an original cabinet? Hell no.. but neither are the 60-1's that a lot of people have and you don't see as much hate for those. The control panel is what it is, and it is certainly a compromise, but with my limited space this machine will get a lot of play from both me and especially my guests who aren't into the games like I am.. so it's all good! It does use a 2 joystick setup for Robotron, karate champ, and Black widow, and in a lot of games it gives you the option of either using the roller ball or joystick (warlords, arkanoid, etc.), so it does do a good job of making the best of what's available on the control panel. If only they could have figured out a way to put a spinner on this thing, it would be golden.. but the CP is pretty crowded down below so it may have been a space issue.

Good luck with your hunt, if you hold out long enough you'll get a good deal. I was lucky enough to find someone who was moving and desperate to sell, and I just could not pass up the deal... and I'm glad I didn't. This unit is getting a lot of play and I see it being that way for along time.. but it will never take the place of my dedicated units :)

I picked up my Ultracade cocktail over 3 years ago, paid too much for it, but I still love it. The kids love it, too, and it gets the most use out of any of my games.

It has the full coin mech and could be used on location, at least functionality wise.
I have most all the packs installed on it, so it has the dragon's lair games, space ace, donkey kongs, pacman, ms pac, etc...

Very nice. I'm curious, how do you play robotron, black widow, and karate champ on that without a second joystick? Are they even playable?

You use the joystick in conjunction with the buttons. Robotron isn't too bad to play, but Karate Champ is very difficult. I wasn't very good at that game originally, so I'm even worse at it with when using this control scheme. It's a given than not all games translate easily/well into one, 'universal' machine.

I picked up a brand new AL2 at an auction for 900$. I don't remember it having 250 games.. maybe it did. I thought the games looked like crap on the big monitor actually for the most part, and control did blow in some games. The small trackball was fairly useless in my opinion and lack of a spinner blew for games like Tempest. I hardly played it and ended up selling it for 1200$.. it took a while to get that price on kijiji. I thought the mame cab I built with a 19" monitor and switchable 4/8 joysticks (not sure if happ still sells them), spinner..etc.. was far better.

and as post above.. Robotron wasn't that bad on big screen with sound cranked. was about the only thing I played on it after a while.

$1300 is not out of line. I would try and work for $1000. You will like the unit and will not have buyer's remorse.

The good thing about the cabinet is if the computer or harddrive dies and you do not have a replacement or unlocked backup of all your games you can plug-and-play swap in a 1600-1 multi setup.

I got my dedicated Ultracade for under $400 and it still had the packing wrap on it. It had been in an office break room briefly before the motherboard died on it. The company was closing down (web hosting company) and was fire selling everything so I snatched it up. Changed the mother board and off I went - $2500 (at the time) machine for under $400 + $50 motherboard.

And - as you mentioned it is ALL LICENSED and legit.

Hopefully yours has dual sticks and a trackball.

I actually think the arcade legends cabs are pretty neat. Especially the cocktail one. Like the above poster said, $1300 is not too bad. I personally would not pay that, but I think the machine is worth that much if it is in good shape.

Of course, always make a lower offer and see what happens. The worst they can do is say "no."
