Whats the going rate for a working/dedicated/nice afterburner - upright.

My son wants me to buy one, do they get old fast?

Will after burner 2 board plug in direct if i wanted to swap out?

Thanks

There is only After Burner II, the "original" AB is more of a japan proto that quickly got updated. (no throttle, less stages, enemies and missiles)

It sits firmly in that $300 range, unless badly damaged of course.
No other game (thunderblade, space harrier) is really a direct board swap, the wiring for their inputs differs.
I like the game but its role has been more of a filler game. Its "repeat play" value is on the lower side it would seem.

I bought mine for $75 non-working. Fixed it (it really WAS just a fuse) and sold it for $300 a year later.

I think I got $200 for a pretty nice one last year. A lot less for an OK one with a graphics issue. I got bored with it really quickly. I think it would be a great addition to a large game room, but if you have the room for say 20 or less games, there are a lot of better choices. I was kinda surprised since I really liked the game when I was a kid. I felt the same way about Outrun and HangOn.

I have not seen the game i am buying, The seller states it is an afterburner.. on the klov game list it says there is a 1 and a 2. So if the one i am buying is a 1 it is more rare. ab 2 looks to have better graphics, kinda like hang on vs super hang on..

I am getting game for $200.

thanks for the help guys

picture of game

Not sure if i am getting a 1 or 2.

sounds like a 1, but 1 seems more hard to find?

thanks

mine says afterburner but has an ab2 boardset in it.

You have to like sega games to like ab. If you like outrun and superhangon, afterburner will be right up your alley. Its fun and fast compated to segas later release, g-loc. I like sega stuff so this is right up my alley.

Graphics are pretty much the same I think. Ab2 has throttle and unlimited ammo as mentioned above. It would be really surprising to see ab1.

200 is a fair price. I got mine for 150 but it needed heavy cleanup and had tough sideart (for which there are no replacements). It's a fun game. Cool lighting and fun controls. Very repetitive but the kids will enjoy it.
