Hey guys,

I know Addam's Family is one of the most sought after pins by many, but what is a typical value for one?

I've got an opportunity to buy one for $2500. It is unshopped, but I can easily do that work myself. I'm told it is complete and good condition except for the mylar overlay which is "dingy".

How good of a price is that?

Thanks.

Good price - but what is meant by "mylar overlay" ? There are only a few spots of mylar on Addams ....hmmm.

I think he was just talking about the mylar itself that is normally on it. Hoping I might get some pics soon. The situation is very much an "American Pickers" scenario. I'm buying it through someone else that is dealing with the owner who is a hoarder it sounds like. Getting access to it is challenging as the owner has his own schedule....

Mylar isn't always installed on pins. At least not on pins that don't expect to get abused.

Mylar overlay on the playfield means the pin was on route at one point, which means all manner of kicking, smacking, bashing, etc could have gone on.

Abuse on it just means you need to be careful.

I've seen a few instances where mylar was placed on the pin at the factory, but not many.

I generally expect most any pin I'm buying was likely on a route at some point or another. When I get a new pin, I completely strip all the parts off down to the bare playfield and go from there cleaning each part as I rebuild it.

I was more worried you were indicating that there would be an issue in removing the mylar or there is some other issue that mylar will cause with that pin.

If the PF is nice (no major wear or magnet burn) and everything it there I would get it.
Its a fun one to shop and a great game.

Not so much issues with the Mylar itself, it's just a signifier of where it's been.

Of course it's ridiculous to think that you could get a HUO TAF for $2500. But stranger things have happened.

Great price for a TAF with a nice playfield and in good condition, this would sell in Florida All day long with no problems.. and would actually be a race to see who could get to it first. Go for it!

to buy one for $2500
unshopped

do you think it possibly needs a new playfield ?
some, might just buy a new one, new inserts, other things too...

then it's worth $4500 - 5000, maybe. depending on location

got mine for $1800 and it needs a lot

Not much intimidates me, but doing a bare playfield swap sure does! When I shop a game I strip everything down as bare as possible except for wire guides and mini posts. The thought of doing the same to the other side and getting it all back together right doesn't sound like fun.

bare playfield swap

all you have to do is remember

take many pictures before and during from all angles
it's easy. after all someone was there before...

think i might request i be buried in mine...

they would have to charge something
after all, these are the good old days...
