Price "bump" for Tron - will we see others?

So, I kept an eye on Donkey Kong machines after The King of Kong started becoming popular. Seemed like there was a *little* bit of a bump of interest in them amongst collectors. (Mind you, TKoK was a limited-release film.)

Now, people are expecting that Tron Legacy will bounce prices for Tron machines.

Do you think the new Missile Command movie (FOX), Space Invaders movie (Warner Bros.) and Asteroids movie (Universal) would do the same for those machines?

I think Tron already carries a premium due to the origiinal movie, but I'd agree that you might be seeing some people trying to sell the game for much higher amounts than previously seen. There were a lot of Trons made, though.

I think with the king of kong the focus was on the gameplay, and it inspired some people to buy the actual game, to play it for fun, or try for the record.

probably not for any of them except tron.. See the original movie was about the GAME... Its like star wars or star trek, none of those games went up after the movies...

I am the only one that actually think that gameplay of Tron is pretty awful? I preferred deadly discs of tron on the intellivision WAYYY over the arcade game.

Yup. Also, it was seen first by more of the hardcore gamer crowd (although every non-gamer I've shown the movie to has loved it).

That's a good distinction.

yeah i hear alot about people not liking tron.. I think alot of people dont stay calm when they play.. ive noticed alot of people REACT to fast on somethings where they shoulda just waited and thought it out! Just my obervation when people play mine.. Same with the bikes, people JERK the joystick like uncontrolably and slam into their on wall while doing zig zags into it...I dont know.. Alls i know is they are 4 good games that you cant pick in order you want to play them, and they keep getting harder as the game goes on... great game!!

i think tron is awesome! the game was released in conjunction with the movie. discs of tron was designed to be included in the tron upright but it wouldn't fit. bally midway then released discs of tron. this is more than a game/movie tie in. this is epic! mint tron uprights will start to go up as the hype builds and explode when the movie comes out! i'm so worked up i might buy another one!

Agreed.

I know a lot of people bag on Tron (the game), but I'm convinced that those who hate it must not be very good at it. It's so addictive once you get rolling. It gets to the point where you're literally coaching yourself out loud before you pick a level:

"OK, if it's tanks, I've gotta go up and to the right as soon as it starts."
"Alright, if it's the cone, it spins counter-clockwise on this level."
"If it's the light cycles, I need to immediately go right."

etc.

Such a blast, man.

I want a Tron, now.

But, like a typical KLOV PPer, I want it cheap. :D

Oh, woe is me... :(

The prices are going to go up....And since that movie comes out around Christmas well.... I'd say anyone planning on selling one wait until December. And if you are looking to buy then get cracking. My wife has already commented how she is grateful that Tron and EDOT are already in the basement :)

In Michigan it seems like Tron machines have started getting quite a bit more expensive over the last 6-12 months. There was one that went for over a 1K not too long ago. Most seem to go for 400-600 but I imagine this will go up as more and more dudes go see the movie and reminisce on playing it as younger dudes. Not to mention Jeff Bridges is really hot right now in movies/hollywood industry and everyone is looking more at his body of work. Nice to see "the dude" get his due. I dig the game, but more for what the cab is and all the cool lighting and controls than the game play. The game play is cool too, but it was a unique cab - you can't go wrong with black light when it comes to arcades.

I actually picked a Tron up in Michigan for $500 bucks, fully working original cabinet, it is actually in very nice shape. To me it was worth it, I have wanted one for a long while now, and just have not found one. Basically, I said to the wife, if I don't get one now, I probably never will because the price will probably go way up when the movie comes out. Not to mention any other collector or person who now sees one will pick it up instantly to turn it for a profit. I am very glad for the pickup. It is a lot of fun to play and anyone who played arcade games when arcades existed knows what Tron is, the game draws a lot of interest.

I, too, love mine...and will never understand why other "gamers" feel the need to tell us how bad it is....Im not "perfect" but take no pride in undermining other "gamers" memories..Oh..the movie is great, too.

Prices could go up now since the movie trailer was released and now everyone will know about the sequel. I wonder how much I could get for my NOS Tron cab :)

Mines going up for sale - $5000 :D
