What is the best course of action for me here? I need to clean up my Space Invaders playfield. The remaining paint is brittle on the edge of where the paint has been chipping off. The whole thing is really dusty and it looks as if it almost never got cleaned or waxed. How do I go about cleaning it where I won't take more paint off? Just use Nova 2 and be gentle? Will the wax be sufficient to preserve what's left?

the hope is that someday "they" will reproduce the playfield

short of that, i would clearcoat it
depending on how much damage cleaning it will tell you how far to go

can you post pictures ?

If the paint is brittle, it will start to chip and come off during play (even if waxed). I had a kiss playfield that did this. The best cheap way to fix this is to put mylar on top of it. I realized that most pinball guys are taking mylar off, but for you this is the best thing. First of all it will hold the paint down, second it will give the playfield shine (the mylar looks shiny and it will definitely make a difference). Third it will play better since the mylar will be slicker and the ball will tend to spin on it.
